Vice President - Merchant Risk Management
Location: Mumbai

Our Merchant Services Global Business Line delivers end-to-end Commercial Acquiring, Multichannel Payment Acceptance and Payment Terminal solutions, combining payment, digital and transactional expertise to boost merchant sales and enhance customer experiences.

The Opportunity
Lead the 1st Line of Defense for Worldline India's Merchant Risk Management, with end-to-end responsibility for underwriting, AML/CTF, credit and fraud risk management across our Merchant Services businesses. Manage a team of ~80 risk specialists overseeing Instore (POS), Online (E-commerce), Recurring Mandate, and Bills Payment operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Direct all Merchant Acquiring Risk Management operations across multiple payment channels
  • Team Management: Lead 80+ risk professionals handling underwriting, AML/CTF, credit and fraud risks
  • Risk Assessment: Review enterprise merchant underwriting assessments and document risks for management committees
  • Financial Analysis: Interpret merchant financials, evaluate credit risk ratings, and implement chargeback risk mitigation
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to KYC/AML/CFT regulations and RBI guidelines
  • Transaction Monitoring: Oversee AML and fraud monitoring operations with qualitative investigations
  • Portfolio Management: Monitor merchant exposure, credit quality, and implement loss mitigation actions
  • Policy Development: Collaborate on Merchant Risk Acceptance and KYC policies
  • Stakeholder Relations: Maintain relationships with banks, card schemes, and regulators
  • Technology Implementation: Lead Merchant Risk Toolkit deployment and stay current with PayTech trends
  • Team Development: Mentor staff in risk management best practices

Technical Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or Risk Management (Master's preferred)
  • Experience: 10+ years senior fraud risk management experience with acquirers, PSPs, or digital lending
  • Leadership: Proven senior management and large team leadership experience
  • Risk Expertise: Deep knowledge of KYC/ML/Fraud Risk, Credit/Chargeback Risk, and Business Risk (SME experience advantageous)
  • Regulatory: Advanced AML/CTF risk management and KYC due diligence expertise
  • Financial: Strong understanding of financial statements, credit analysis, and modeling
  • Technology: Experience with AML/Transaction monitoring software and fraud detection tools
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills
  • Personal: Results-oriented, proactive, flexible with travel availability
