Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India Symbionic Full time ₹ 3,60,000 - ₹ 4,64,000 per year

Job Title:
Prosthetist and Orthotist

Engagement Type: Full time, in person

Location: Chennai

About Symbionic:

Symbionic Tech is a fast-growing assistive technology startup based in Chennai. We design and build user-centric prosthetic solutions that make daily living easier for people with disabilities, starting with upper limb amputees and individuals with limb differences.

Our flagship product, Krea Adaptive, is a modular kit of activity-specific prosthetic attachments that helps amputees get back to everyday activities like riding a bike, cooking, and working with confidence. We work with both individual users and clinics across India.

Why this role matters:

For an amputee, the right prosthetic device is not just a product. It can decide how they work, travel, care for their family, and how they see their own future.

As Prosthetist at Symbionic, you are at the heart of this change. You meet users in person, understand their needs, take measurements, design and fit sockets, and guide them through trials and training. You are often the first clinical face of Symbionic that users and families interact with.

If you enjoy working closely with patients, want to deepen your hands-on skills in upper limb prosthetics, and like being part of a small, fast-learning team, this role will be a great fit.

Role Overview:

You will lead the end to end clinical workflow for upper limb users who visit our Chennai center for Krea Adaptive. This includes:

  • Engaging with users and families during demos
  • Assessing clinical suitability for Krea Adaptive
  • Taking measurements and leading socket design
  • Coordinating and executing fitment, trials, and training
  • Capturing feedback to improve both products and processes

You will work closely with our product and operations teams and will have the opportunity to influence how next generation assistive products are designed and deployed.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. User Engagement and Clinical Assessment

  2. Meet and interact with users who visit for demos and consultations.

  3. Explain Krea Adaptive and related solutions in simple, clear language.
  4. Assess whether a user is clinically and functionally suitable for Krea Adaptive.
  5. Guide users and families on the next steps for prosthetic fitment.

  6. Measurement, Design and Socket Manufacturing

  7. Take accurate measurements and casts for upper limb prosthetic sockets.

  8. Work with internal teams and vendors to design and manufacture sockets.
  9. Ensure quality, comfort, and function are considered while designing sockets.
  10. Maintain proper records of measurements, designs, and changes.

  11. Fitment, Trail and Training

  12. Conduct fitment sessions for users receiving Krea Adaptive.

  13. Plan and support trial sessions so users can test the device in real activities.
  14. Train users in donning, doffing, basic care, and safe use of the prosthesis.
  15. Work with users over multiple sessions to optimise fit and function.

  16. Follow up and User Feedback

  17. Schedule and conduct follow up visits for all users.

  18. Document user feedback on comfort, usability, and daily life impact.
  19. Share insights with the product and design teams to improve future versions.

  20. Collaboration and Process Improvement

  21. Coordinate with operations, product, and outreach teams for smooth user journeys.

  22. Help refine clinical protocols, documentation formats, and checklists.
  23. Participate in internal trainings, case discussions, and learning sessions.

Requirements:

Must Have:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
  • Strong basics in upper limb anatomy, prosthetic design, and socket principles.
  • Interest in hands-on work with measurements, casting, and socket modifications.
  • Clear and empathetic communication skills with users and families.
  • Willingness to learn fast in a startup environment and take ownership of outcomes.
  • Residing in or willing to relocate to Chennai.

Good to Have :

  • Prior exposure to upper limb prosthetics or socket manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a prosthetic clinic, rehab center, or hospital.
  • Comfort using basic digital tools like Google Sheets, Docs, and email.
  • Interest in new technologies and in contributing feedback to product design.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to candidates with hands-on experience in socket manufacturing and fitment.

What success looks like in the first 6 moths:

  • You independently handle end to end clinical workflow for Krea Adaptive users at the Chennai center.
  • Users report high comfort and confidence with their sockets and devices.
  • Measurement records, fitment notes, and follow ups are well documented and updated.
  • You share regular, actionable feedback that helps improve products and processes.
  • You are seen by users and the team as a reliable, empathetic, and skilled clinical partner.

Compensation:

  • Fixed salary: ₹3,60,000 to 4,20,000 per annum
  • Potential for performance based growth as the company and role expand
