Field Application Engineer

Job Purpose

1. Work closely with PM & Sales to address enquiries from India market.

2. Evaluation of applications and identifying the needs at customer side by direct contact/visits; working out suggestions based on our existing portfolio and/or possibilities for custom solutions.

3. Pre-design of EMC and storage chokes and prototypes; measurements and evaluation of properties for specifications (data sheet).

4. Practical exchange with NPI/engineering at the sites for sampling, design finalization and project management. Knowledge support of NPI/PD on sites at local projects till finalization.

Key Challenges for the Position

1. The core challenge lies in balancing, competing and often contradictory performance requirements. The engineer must simultaneously optimize for electrical performance, thermal management, reliability, manufacturability, size, weight, and cost, all while adhering to strict industry standards.

2. Both transformers and chokes contain parasitic elements, such as winding resistance, leakage inductance, and inter-winding capacitance. These parasitics can negatively affect performance, generate harmful electromagnetic interference (EMI), and create resonance phenomena, particularly at higher frequencies.

3. Efficient thermal management & mechanical stress resistance.

4. System integration challenges: Mainly related to electomagnetic compatibility.

5. Adapting to new applications: The role requires staying updated with evolving industry trends, such as the integration of renewable energy. New applications introduce challenges like voltage fluctuations and harmonic distortions, requiring the design of specialized components.

Key Activities

1. Involve in the complete lifecycle of magnetic components, from initial concept to production.

2. Deep understanding of electrical theory, material science, and manufacturing processes.

3. Detailed electrical calculations to determine key parameters like turns ratio, inductance, impedance, power levels, and peak currents.

4. Material and component selection: select appropriate core materials (such as iron or ferrite), winding conductors (including wire gauge), and insulation systems based on cost, performance, and application requirements.

5. Work directly with clients to assess their needs, clarify specifications, and provide technical guidance during both the bidding and execution phases of a project.

Education Formal education
