Senior Resident/Attending Consultant

A Senior Resident Gynecologist provides advanced patient care in obstetrics and gynecology, supervises junior staff, performs surgeries like cesarean sections, and participates in academic activities, all while ensuring patient safety and adhering to hospital policies. The role involves a dynamic schedule encompassing clinics, surgeries, on-call duties, and patient counseling under the supervision of senior consultants.

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Care: Provide advanced clinical care to patients in obstetrics and gynecology, including managing high-risk pregnancies, deliveries, and gynecological procedures.
• Diagnosis and Treatment: Perform diagnostic assessments, interpret reports, and develop comprehensive treatment plans for patients.
• Surgical Procedures: Participate in and perform gynecological surgeries, such as cesarean sections, hysterectomies, and laparoscopies.
• Supervision and Training: Train and mentor junior residents, interns, and nursing staff in patient care protocols and clinical procedures.
• Patient Counseling: Offer counseling and support to patients and their families regarding reproductive health, treatment options, and preventive care.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, detailed treatment notes, and follow-up care plans.
• Adherence to Protocols: Ensure strict adherence to hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
• Academic Contributions: Participate in academic activities, case presentations, and research projects to enhance clinical knowledge.

Typical Daily Activities

• Ward Rounds: Conduct rounds in the postnatal ward, reviewing patients and managing conditions like high blood pressure.
• Assessment Units: See patients in the gynecology assessment unit for issues such as heavy bleeding, miscarriages, and ectopic pregnancies.
• Clinics: Hold antenatal clinic appointments and manage long-term gynecological issues in the outpatient department.
• Theater Work: Participate in the operation theater, assisting with elective and emergency surgeries.
• On-Call Duties: Cover the labor ward and maternity triage, responding to emergencies and assisting with deliveries.

Required Qualifications

• Education: A Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree followed by a Master of Surgery (MS) or Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
• Experience: Clinical experience and a strong background in women's health and reproductive medicine are essential.
