Agro-Commodity Analyst (Buy-Side Fund)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled
Agro-Commodity Analyst
to join our buy-side fund. This is a crucial role where you will perform in-depth fundamental analysis on various agricultural commodities to generate investment theses and support our portfolio management decisions. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of both fundamental and technical analysis, with a proven ability to translate market insights into actionable investment strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investment Research & Analysis:
  • Conduct comprehensive fundamental research on a wide range of agricultural commodities, including grains, oilseeds, softs, and livestock.
  • Analyze global supply-and-demand dynamics, weather patterns, trade flows, and government policies.
  • Develop and maintain proprietary models for supply-demand balances, price forecasting, and market equilibrium.
  • Synthesize complex data from multiple sources to identify market trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Strategy & Recommendations:
  • Generate and present clear, well-supported investment recommendations to portfolio managers and the investment committee.
  • Collaborate with the trading desk to develop and execute trading strategies based on your research and market outlook.
  • Provide real-time market commentary and updates on key events affecting commodity prices.
  • Due Diligence & Engagement:
  • Conduct due diligence on potential investments, including on-the-ground field surveys and interviews with industry participants.
  • Build and maintain a network of industry contacts, including farmers, traders, and analysts.
  • Attend industry conferences and events to stay current with market developments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Agriculture, or a related quantitative field. A Master's or CFA designation is a plus.
  • Proven experience as a commodity analyst, preferably in a buy-side or similar investment role.
  • Deep knowledge of both fundamental and technical analysis within the agricultural commodity space.
  • Exceptional quantitative, financial modeling, and data analysis skills. Proficiency with tools like Python, R, or Excel is highly desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information concisely.
  • High level of intellectual curiosity, with a proactive and independent work ethic.
