Plant Manager

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Industry: Paper-Based Packaging, Offset & Flexo Printing

Reports To: Managing Director / Group Operations Head

Job Summary:

The Manager will be responsible for managing and optimizing all production and operational functions within the packaging division, covering paper-based cartons, labels, and related printed materials. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background and a strong command of offset and narrow web flexo printing processes. He will oversee end-to-end plant management — from procurement to dispatch — ensuring efficiency, quality, cost control, and adherence to production timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Plant Operations & Management

2. Lead and manage the entire packaging plant operations including pre-press, offset printing, flexo printing, and post-press finishing.

3. Supervise day-to-day activities ensuring smooth workflow, minimal downtime, and consistent quality output.
4. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process controls.

5. Monitor production metrics and drive continuous improvement in productivity and cost efficiency.

6. Procurement & Inventory Management

7. Oversee procurement of raw materials such as paperboard, inks, adhesives, and consumables.

8. Ensure timely sourcing of materials at optimal pricing and maintain stock levels to avoid production delays.

9. Liaise with vendors for equipment and material purchases aligned with plant capacity and technology upgrades.

10. Manpower Planning & Leadership

11. Lead, train, and motivate technical and operational teams across departments.

12. Implement performance monitoring systems and skill enhancement programs.

13. Foster a safety-first culture and enforce compliance with HSE regulations.

14. Production Planning & Scheduling

15. Plan, schedule, and allocate jobs efficiently to meet customer deadlines and optimize machine utilization.

16. Coordinate with sales, design, and dispatch teams for smooth order flow.

17. Analyze bottlenecks and deploy corrective measures to enhance throughput.

18. Technical & Quality Oversight

19. Maintain high-quality standards in printing and finishing in line with client specifications.

20. Coordinate with pre-press teams for accurate plate preparation, color calibration, and proofing.

21. Ensure preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment to minimize downtime.

22. Process Improvement & Cost Control

23. Identify areas of waste and inefficiency; implement lean manufacturing and 5S practices.

24. Conduct periodic cost analyses to ensure profitability and process optimization.
25. Evaluate new technologies and machinery to enhance productivity and competitiveness.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Printing, or Industrial preferred).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in paper-based packaging and labels manufacturing.
• At least 2 years of proven experience as a Plant Head or Production Manager in an offset or flexo printing facility.
• Strong understanding of pre-press, offset, flexographic printing, die-cutting, lamination, and finishing processes.
• Excellent leadership, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in production scheduling tools and Microsoft Office / ERP systems.
• Knowledge of ISO / quality standards and machine procurement processes is an advantage.
