About Epiroc

Epiroc is a global leader in mining and infrastructure equipment, dedicated to driving productivity and sustainability across the industry. We are committed to building a better, more sustainable world through cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions in automation, digitalization, and electrification.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Team Manager and Product Owner with a strong technical background in heavy machinery automation using embedded control systems and offboard supervisory platforms for mining and construction equipment.

You will lead engineers to develop innovative automation solutions — covering remote control, tele-operation, and autonomous functionalities for Epiroc's global products.

In this dual role, you will:

  • As a Team Manager, you will take end-to-end responsibility for recruitment, mentoring, coaching, and performance management, building and managing cross-functional agile teams with expertise in niche technical areas.
  • As a Product Owner, you will work closely with global stakeholders to define product vision, prioritize and manage backlogs, and ensure high-quality delivery using agile methodologies.

You will foster innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement, ensuring your team contributes to Epiroc's automation roadmap and long-term business growth.

Mission of the Role

To build and lead a competent and trusted automation team that delivers scalable onboard automation (embedded systems) and offboard automation solutions for mining and construction equipment. This role combines people leadership and product ownership to align with global divisional R&D teams, accelerate time-to-market, and drive business growth in line with Epiroc's sustainability and innovation goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand technical requirements from global stakeholders, build capable teams, and ensure timely delivery of automation software solutions.
  • Lead and mentor cross-functional agile teams, fostering a high-performing, innovative, and collaborative environment.
  • Take full responsibility for recruitment, competence development, and performance reviews, building future-ready teams.
  • Be approachable and proactive in removing blockers, providing guidance, and enabling teams to achieve delivery goals.
  • Collaborate with global Product Owners and divisional R&D to align on priorities, requirements, and technical direction. (If applicable, take ownership of product backlog definition and prioritization.)
  • Manage resources, timelines, and delivery commitments, ensuring quality and maintainability in all deliverables.
  • Promote agile ways of working, focusing on iteration planning, sprint reviews, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive innovation in areas such as control systems, remote control, tele-operation, simulation, and autonomy.
  • Guide teams in developing expertise across embedded control systems, software integration, and offboard automation platforms.
  • Stay current with technological advancements in autonomous systems, sensor fusion, cybersecurity, and software-defined architectures.

Technical Focus Areas

Depending on experience, you may lead automation initiatives across:

Onboard Automation (Embedded Systems):

Real-time control and communication software for mining and construction equipment using C++, C#, .NET, Linux or PLC environments.

Offboard Automation Solutions:

Platforms enabling remote operation, tele-operation, and autonomy, built using C#, Python, .NET, Linux, and CI/CD pipelines, ensuring seamless coordination between operator and equipment.

Common Platform Layer for Control Systems and Automation:

Development of shared software frameworks and core components supporting both drilling and material-handling applications.

Work may involve diagnostics, device drivers, hardware abstraction (HAL), software configurators, cybersecurity resilience, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and integration of emerging technologies such as Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) concepts.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10–15 years in automation, embedded control systems, or industrial software development, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or Product Owner role.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in C++, C#, Python, Linux, QNX, MATLAB/Simulink, and automation frameworks.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Servant Leadership: Embrace a servant leadership approach with a proactive, can-do attitude and a curiosity to learn.
  • Communication and Project Management: Strong communication skills coupled with excellent project management capabilities along with problem-solving skills, attention to detail.

Nice to Have:

  • International Experience: Experience working with European or US clients and onsite experience, demonstrating an understanding of cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Agile Certifications: Certifications such as Scrum Master or Product Owner, indicating proficiency in agile methodologies and team management.
  • Knowledge of Emerging Technologies: Awareness of advancements in software-defined vehicles and model-based development, relevant for strategic decision-making.
  • Technical Expertise:

  • Experience with machine learning, deep learning or AI techniques.

  • Familiarity with simulation tools like Gazebo, Unity, or Unreal, and Docker containers for software deployment.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive Salary and Benefits: Enjoy a rewarding compensation package tailored to your expertise.
  • Innovative Projects: Work on cutting-edge advancements with a talented team.
  • Professional Growth: Access continuous learning and career progression opportunities.
  • Flexible Work Environment: Benefit from a supportive setting that promotes work-life balance.
  • Inclusive Culture: Embrace diverse perspectives and inclusivity in the workplace.

Why you should apply:

This role offers high visibility, cross-functional collaboration, and the opportunity to shape how automation and control systems evolve across onboard and offboard platforms. You'll lead technically strong teams while combining people leadership with product and technical ownership, ensuring alignment between engineering execution and business value.

You will also contribute to developing interoperable, brand-agnostic remote control and autonomy solutions that enable seamless integration across mixed fleets in mining operations — extending Epiroc's automation leadership to a broader ecosystem.

If you're passionate about developing people, applying product knowledge, and driving real-world impact in automation and control systems, this position provides the ideal platform to do so.
