Instructional Designer

Job Summary

The Instructional Designer will play a key role in designing and developing effective, high-quality learning solutions for IIT Bombay's Educational Outreach (EO) initiatives. This role emphasizes creating engaging presentations in PowerPoint, developing storyboards, and building e-learning content using tools. The Instructional Designer will also contribute to course curation, LMS optimization, and collaboration with faculty and production teams. The ideal candidate will bring proven skills in instructional design with strong proficiency in PowerPoint and other ID tools.

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay- Development and Relations Foundation (DRF) is a not-for-profit section 8 unit. IITB DRF facilitates Institute's core mission and engages with our vibrant alumni community, corporations, and foundations with the goal of developing and sustaining long-term relationships.

These groups are the key stakeholders in IIT Bombay's journey of excellence. We encourage the involvement and participation of these entities in the Institute's strategic initiatives. These include setting up world class research and academics in emerging areas of science and technology, building world class infrastructure, improving faculty value proposition, strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem, and contributing to the society.

IITB DRF assists fundraising endeavors by way of donor solicitations, managing donor programs, maintaining financial accounts and reporting details of all activities implemented with alumni donations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum and Content Development

• Collaborate with IIT Bombay faculty to define learning objectives and curriculum frameworks for synchronous, asynchronous, and blended programs.
• Create course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with best practices.
• Review and enhance existing content to create curated courses.

2. Instructional Design and Multimedia Development

• Create high-quality PowerPoint presentations using advanced animations, transitions, and triggers.
• Design and develop engaging multimedia content such as presentations, videos, assessments, and interactive modules.
• Apply instructional design theories and methodologies to create effective learning experiences.

3. Content Curation and Quality Assurance

• Storyboard lessons in PowerPoint, Word, or Excel.
• Create storyboards for videos in Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
• Create eLearning assets in PowerPoint, Articulate Rise, and Storyline.
• Conduct quality checks for accuracy, accessibility, and instructional effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with copyright laws, accessibility standards, and regulatory requirements.

4. Collaboration and Innovation

• Work closely with faculty, videographers, program managers, instructional technologists, multimedia specialists, and other IDs to deliver seamless projects.
• Foster cross-functional collaboration with videographers, program managers, faculty, research assistants, and graphic designers to ensure seamless execution of projects.
• Stay updated with trends in instructional design and apply innovative practices to improve learning solutions.

5. Miscellaneous

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the organization's goals.

Qualifications, Experiences, and Competencies

Educational Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Engineering, or a related field.

Professional Experience

• 4 – 6 years of proven experience in instructional design, with a preference for candidates who have worked in universities or academic institutions.
• Proven track record of designing and delivering effective learning solutions with measurable outcomes.
• Experience in content curation and creating curated courses from existing materials is a strong advantage.

Competencies

• Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools, multimedia development software, and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
• Expertise in
  PowerPoint
  animations and triggers is mandatory.
• Expertise in
  Articulate 360 (esp. Storyline, Studio, and Rise).
• Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a collaborative environment is mandatory.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely.
• Ability to upskill other team members and foster a culture of continuous learning.
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams effectively.
