Tech Lead, Backend Engineering

Role Summary

We are building the next generation AI-native Customer Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) platform. We are looking for a hands-on Tech Lead with strong backend engineering expertise, deep Python fundamentals, and the ability to translate ambiguous requirements into solid architecture and code.

As a Tech Lead, you will be the technical backbone of the engineering teamowning design, development, code quality, mentoring engineers, and driving technical excellence across the stack. You will work closely with founders to shape the product roadmap, influence architecture, and ensure rapid, high-quality delivery.

What You Will Own (Core Responsibilities)

Technical Leadership

• Own end-to-end design and development of core backend systems and microservices.
• Provide technical direction to engineers and act as the go-to person for complex technical decisions.
• Ensure design quality, coding discipline, and engineering best practices.

Design & Architecture

• Translate product requirements into architecture, detailed design, and implementation plans.
• Apply OOP, design patterns, and system design principles effectively in real-world code.
• Make architectural decisions considering scalability, performance, and maintainability.

Backend Engineering

• Build reliable, high-performance backend systems using Python.
• Implement APIs and microservices using FastAPI, Pydantic, async programming, threading, multiprocessing.
• Work with relational databases (PostgreSQL), caching systems (Redis), and message queues.

Quality & Performance

• Demonstrate strong debugging skillsquickly identify, isolate, and fix issues.
• Ensure code adheres to time and space complexity best practices.
• Conduct design reviews, code reviews, and performance optimizations.

Collaboration & Ownership

• Work independently to research gaps, propose solutions, and deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the engineering culture.
• Collaborate with product, design, and AI engineering teams to ship features with speed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• 5–8 years of hands-on experience in backend software development.
• Strong programming fundamentals in Python with excellent OOP concepts.
• Strong experience with design patterns (and practical usage in real projects).
• Strong understanding of system design concepts and their real-world application.
• Experience with:
• FastAPI / Flask
• Pydantic
• Parallel programming (threading, multiprocessing, async)
• PostgreSQL
• Redis
• GitHub / GitHub Actions
• Docker (optional but beneficial)

Engineering Excellence

• Strong debugging and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to translate requirements into design and code independently.
• Good understanding of time and space complexity in day-to-day programming.
• Strong ownership mindset and startup execution capability.

Leadership Qualities

• Acts as a technical advisor and mentor for junior engineers.
• Strong communication skills and ability to simplify complex concepts.
• Ability to take decisions with clarity and data-driven reasoning.

Desired Skills (Good to Have)

• Prompt engineering / context engineering
• Understanding of generative AI concepts
• Familiarity with LLM frameworks: LangChain, LangGraph, OpenAI API, Vertex AI
• Experience with cloud platforms: GCP(Preferred)/ AWS/ Azure
• Knowledge of CI/CD and DevOps practices
• Experience building AI-driven or agentic workflows is a plus
