This PhD Project Is Part Of a Collaborative Effort Between NORCE, The Institute For Energy Technology (IFE), And The University Of Stavanger. The Project Aims To Further Develop IORSim, a State-of-the-art Reservoir Simulation Tool Designed To Model The Chemical Reactions Between Injected CO2 And Subsurface Minerals. The Research Will Involve
– Advancing simulation models to better capture the effects of CO2 phase behavior and geochemical reactions.
– Integrating field data, laboratory measurements, and other sources to improve model inputs.
– Applying machine learning techniques to select optimal datasets for various operational scenarios and storage lifetimes.
– Addressing Key Research Questions Such As
- How and under what conditions does CO2 or carbonated water affect reservoir chemistry?
- What are the timescales and conditions required for mineral trapping of CO2?
- How do geochemical reactions influence fluid transport in subsurface reservoirs?
