Role & responsibilities
Environmental Officer
- Ensure adherence to environmental laws, waste management rules, and recycling standards.
- Maintain and renew permits for waste handling, storage, and recycling operations.
- Prepare and submit compliance reports to environmental authorities.
- Monitor recycling processes to ensure efficiency and safety.
- Promote reuse and recovery of materials to minimize landfill dependency.
- Conduct regular inspections of the dumping yard and recycling units.
- Monitor air, water, and soil quality to detect contamination or pollution.
- Track emissions, leachate, and odor control systems.
- Identify environmental hazards such as methane buildup, fire risks, or chemical leaks.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies and emergency response plans.
- Evaluate new technologies for waste processing and recycling.
- Train staff on safe waste handling, PPE usage, and emergency protocols.
- Conduct awareness programs for workers and nearby communities on environmental safety.
- Liaise with municipal bodies, pollution control boards, and NGOs.
- Maintain records of waste volumes, recycling rates, and environmental incidents.
Safety Officer
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards
- Assess risks related to machinery, waste handling, and chemical exposure.
- Develop mitigation strategies and safety protocols.
- Ensure adherence to national and local occupational health and safety laws.
- Maintain documentation for audits and inspections by regulatory bodies.
- Update safety policies based on changes in legislation or operational needs.
- Train workers on safe waste handling, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
- Conduct safety drills for fire, chemical spills, and other emergencies.
- Promote a safety-first culture across all departments.
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and unsafe practices.
- Document incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate with emergency services when needed.
- Monitor safe loading, unloading, and transportation of waste.
- Ensure hazardous waste is stored and disposed of according to safety standards.
- Supervise recycling processes to prevent injuries and contamination.
- Work with environmental officers to minimize pollution and manage emissions.
- Maintain safety logs, inspection reports, and training records.
- Prepare monthly safety performance reports for management review.
