ABOUT LOW CARBON TRANSITION WORKSTREAM

CPI's Low Carbon Transition work stream focuses on analysing decarbonization pathways of energy, industry, mobility and related sectors. The workstream combines economic impacts with an array of policy tools and financial instruments and mechanisms to address transition impacts and create opportunities for sustainable development. 

The objective of CPI's Low Carbon Transition work stream in India is to create comprehensive sectoral transition frameworks, structured around utilization of limited public funds, international development capital and carbon finance to navigate transition related risks. The intended outcome of the work stream is to inform and build institutional capacity on how to manage the risks of low-carbon energy transitions while minimizing the cost and maximizing the opportunities for stakeholders. Under this programme, CPI is actively engaging with policy makers at a regional level, civil society and academic institutions, financial institutions, and state-owned enterprises.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Consultant will be part of the Low Carbon Transition team in India and will undertake robust and careful analysis to develop sectoral transition frameworks, policy recommendations and financial mechanisms, drawing on methodologies from economics, finance, public policy and other disciplines.

In addition to analytical work, the consultant will support the communication and continued engagement with a range of national and international partners from the policy, finance, and corporate spheres, as well as with other CPI teams globally.

The Consultant's primary focus will be on Low Carbon Transition Finance but will form an integral part of the CPI Climate Finance team and have the opportunity to collaborate with other Climate Finance programs.

PRIMARY DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES

The Consultant will work across three main areas of work: (1) Research & analysis, (2) Stakeholder engagement, and (3) Written communication.

• Conduct quantitative and qualitative evaluation on transition impacts and costs.
• Identifying sources, type and structures of finance required to provide transition assistance.
• Active participation and contribution to stakeholder meetings acting on behalf of CPI.
• Support in engagements with prospective funders, collaborators.
• Support with development of proposals.
• Communicate and collaborate with CPI staff working around the globe.
• Share responsibility with team members for monitoring the progress of the workplan and production of deliverables as per timelines.
• Writing and editing of high-quality products, including reports, papers, executive summaries, blogs, and presentations.
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Master's degree in Energy Science/Energy Economics/ Power Management/ Power Systems
• At least 3 years of demonstrable experience working with power generation/ transmission/ distribution utilities in India or technical/management consulting firms
• Strong understanding of India's energy sector, including key policies, regulations, and recent developments.
• Experience in stakeholder management with ministries, departments and private sector entities
• Advanced quantitative and data analysis skills using MS Excel, Stata, R, or Python.
