Role Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer to support the validation of electric powertrain components and systems. You will be responsible for setting up test rigs, installing sensors, configuring data acquisition systems, and executing both lab-based and on-road tests to capture high-quality performance and durability data.

This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys hands-on testing, has a strong understanding of instrumentation, and is skilled in processing technical data to guide engineering decisions.

You will work closely with teams across design team, motor controls, electronics, mechanical, and thermal to validate next-generation electric motors.

Responsibilities
:

• Understand requirements from the design team, plan tests, and execute with complete ownership.
• Assist in planning and executing mechanical tests such as structural, vibration, fatigue, and thermal validation.
• Build and maintain basic test fixtures and rigs under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Install and calibrate sensors (temperature, voltage, current, torque, RPM, strain gauge, accelerometer, etc.) for component and system test setups.
• Participate in on-road vehicle testing to validate mount durability, gearbox NVH, and cooling efficiency.
• Support on-road testing of instrumented vehicles, including real-world drive cycle execution, range runs, acceleration testing, and thermal profiling.
• Follow structured test plans and procedures; document anomalies or failures during execution.
• Perform post-processing and data analysis using Excel, MATLAB, or Python. Generate structured reports with plots, findings, and engineering insights.
• Document test observations, deviations, and assist in preliminary root cause analysis.
• Maintain test logs, safety documentation, and calibration records.

Qualifications:

• B.E./B.Tech or Master's/M.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in testing, instrumentation, or validation of electrical or mechatronic systems.
• Basic CAD skills for visualizing test jigs and fixtures.
• Experience working with test benches or field setups for electric or automotive systems.
• Exposure to mechanical sensors and instrumentation setups.
• Methodical approach to documentation, traceability, and safety compliance.

Preferred Skills:

• Proficient in root cause analysis of test or performance issues.
• Willingness to work across lab, vehicle, and outdoor testing environments.
• Advanced proficiency in MATLAB for test data analysis, Python is a plus.
• Hands-on with installing thermocouples, torque sensors, strain gauges, encoders, and RTDs.
• Strong attention to detail, observation, and clear communication skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills in high-pressure, production-critical environments.
• Good at time management and tracking test progress across multiple systems.
