Role & responsibilities
The Factory Manager is responsible for overseeing all factory operations, ensuring efficient production, maintaining quality standards, managing manpower, maintaining machinery, and ensuring safety compliance. The role requires strong leadership, planning, decision-making, and coordination with various departments.
Preferred candidate profile
Key Responsibilities
1. Production Management
- Plan, schedule, and monitor daily production activities.
- Ensure timely completion of production targets.
- Improve production efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Coordinate with purchase and store departments for raw material availability.
2. Manpower & Team Management
- Supervise and manage workers, supervisors, and shift in-charges.
- Assign duties and plan manpower deployment.
- Conduct training for new workers and monitor performance.
- Maintain discipline, attendance, and shift planning.
3. Quality Control
- Ensure all products meet the companys quality standards.
- Implement quality checks during different stages of production.
- Coordinate with QC department for inspections and testing.
- Reduce rejection and rework through proper process control.
4. Machinery & Maintenance
- Monitor machinery performance and coordinate for preventive maintenance.
- Ensure minimum breakdown and smooth operation of equipment.
- Maintain logbooks, maintenance schedules, and AMC records.
5. Inventory & Material Management
- Ensure availability of raw materials, consumables, tools, and spares.
- Coordinate with stores and purchase for timely procurement.
- Reduce wastage and ensure optimum usage of materials.
6. Safety & Compliance
- Implement workplace safety standards and training.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, factory rules, and environmental norms.
- Maintain fire safety, PPE usage, and emergency procedures.
7. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain production reports, shift reports, and machine logs.
- Submit daily/weekly/monthly performance reports to management.
- Assist in audits (quality, safety, statutory).
8. Continuous Improvement
- Identify improvement areas in production and processes.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives and reduce idle time.
- Introduce lean manufacturing, 5S, or other improvement tools if applicable.
Skills & Qualifications
Education
- Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, Production, or related field
(Experience-based candidates also acceptable depending on company needs)
Experience
- 5–15 years of experience in manufacturing/factory operations.
- Experience in supervising large teams and managing multiple shifts.
Skills
- Strong leadership & decision-making.
- Knowledge of production planning & scheduling.
- Understanding of quality control and maintenance.
- Good communication & problem-solving abilities.
- Knowledge of MS Excel, ERP/SAP (optional but beneficial).
Work Environment
- Factory floor working conditions
- May require shift handling
- Coordination with management, suppliers, and workers
