Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Carnatic Vocal Teacher who can transmit not only musical excellence but also the bhava, discipline, and devotion intrinsic to Carnatic music. The role involves mentoring young students in a residential gurukul environment where music is lived, not merely taught.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Carnatic Vocal Music to students across age groups (7–17 years), from beginner to advanced levels
  • Design and deliver structured yet inspired lesson plans
  • Enrich and expand the existing music curriculum in alignment with traditional parampara
  • Prepare students in shruti, laya, voice culture, kritis, varnams, and manodharma as appropriate
  • Inspire students to cultivate discipline, sensitivity, devotion, and love for music
  • Participate in school cultural activities, performances, and special events

Requirements

  • Strong foundation and formal training in Carnatic Vocal Music under a recognized Guru
  • Prior teaching experience with children or young adults preferred
  • Ability to balance structure and creativity in teaching
  • Openness to living and working in a gurukul-style, residential environment
  • Alignment with the vision and values of Isha Foundation
  • Being a meditator is an added advantage
