Job Summary

The Chat Chef is responsible for preparing, assembling, and serving a variety of Indian street food and chaat items with authenticity, cleanliness, and efficiency. The role requires excellent knowledge of traditional Indian flavors, quick service techniques, and strong hygiene practices.

A Chat Chef plays a key role in maintaining the restaurant or stall's reputation for taste, freshness, and presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook chaat items such as Pani Puri, Bhel Puri, Sev Puri, Dahi Puri, Ragda Patties, Aloo Tikki Chaat, Samosa Chaat, etc.
  • Prepare chutneys, sauces, and toppings (mint chutney, tamarind chutney, yogurt mix, masalas, etc.) daily.
  • Maintain consistency in flavor, portion, and presentation according to restaurant standards.
  • Set up and manage the chaat counter efficiently during service hours.
  • Greet and serve customers politely while ensuring fast and hygienic service.
  • Monitor inventory of ingredients and report shortages to management.
  • Follow hygiene and safety standards (FSSAI guidelines or equivalent).
  • Maintain cleanliness of workstation, utensils, and preparation areas.
  • Assist in menu development by introducing new chaat varieties or regional specialties.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Chat Chef, Indian Street Food Cook, or Snack Chef.
  • Strong knowledge of Indian spices, chutneys, and snack preparation techniques.
  • Excellent speed, accuracy, and multitasking skills.
  • Good communication and customer service attitude.
  • Ability to work under pressure during peak hours.
  • Commitment to food hygiene, cleanliness, and presentation.

Education & Experience

  • No formal degree required — vocational training or experience in Indian snack/street food preparation preferred.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in a restaurant, food stall, or catering environment.

Working Conditions

  • May require long hours, especially during evenings or festivals.
  • Work involves standing for extended periods and handling hot food and equipment.
  • Typically operates in restaurant kitchens, food stalls, food trucks, or catering setups.

Typical Pay Range

  • India: ₹12,000 – ₹25,000 per month (depending on location and experience).
  • Abroad: $10–$20 per hour in restaurants or food courts specializing in Indian cuisine.
