YOUR IMPACT

We are looking for an early-career Product & Project Manager to join our Data Engineering team. Data is the lifeblood of Goldman Sachs and our data products and services are critical in delivering commercial success for the firm. You will build and maintain close relationships with our users, research, design and engineering teams and work on solutions for internal, external and new business opportunities. You will closely partner with the Data Engineering product management team, engineers, and businesses, to fully understand business processes front to back, and work together with them to uplift data strategies and processes.

Our (fully open-sourced) Legend data platform is key to Goldman Sachs' data strategy and the role of the Product Management team is to drive adoption by unlocking new workflows and business use cases on our data platform. The Product Management team applies their product knowledge to generate metrics-driven insights, formulate and drive execution plans to build and improve features, and streamline the user journeys for our 30k monthly active users. Our team of product managers work closely with creatives and researchers through our design teams and are fortunate to have many experienced engineers to help architect and develop technologies. We are responsible for guiding products throughout all stages of the product's lifecycle, including research, pitching, scoping, delivering, promoting, and tailoring solutions to our clients.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Product & Project Manager in Data Engineering, you will contribute to one of the most critical Engineering functions at Goldman Sachs. In this role, you will develop an in-depth understanding of large-scale analytics and data modelling concepts and gain hands-on experience of how they are supported in the Legend data platform.

You will execute high priority and complex projects by using best-in-class program and project management skills. You will be part of the Product Management team, supporting Product Operations and management of large-scale, high-paced Data Engineering initiatives which are complex, highly visible, and strategically important to the firm.

You will build new approaches and tools to plan and deliver effective programs and products. You will interface with a wide range of stakeholders to manage cross-divisional work. You will create reports and stand up metrics & KPIs to help senior leaders keep track of progress.

By performing this role, you will acquire detailed knowledge of Data Engineering Products, stakeholders and use cases. In the longer term, you will also have the opportunity to take on other project and product management roles within Data Engineering.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

We're looking for someone with 1-3 years of Project and/or Product Management experience who will primarily focus on:

• Product Operations: Strategically track and manage the delivery and execution of high-priority Product Operations initiatives. Define frameworks to manage key Product Management artifacts including Product Feature Requests, Flagship Initiatives and OKRs. This includes developing and monitoring Product Operations processes, coordinating with various stakeholders within Data Engineering and across divisions, and reporting on progress to senior management, while highlighting strategic implications and potential areas for process improvement.
• Strategic initiatives & project management. Support the planning, tracking and execution of Strategic Initiatives across Data Engineering. Navigate the organizational structure to act as a bridge between different teams, facilitating collaboration and ensuring everyone is aligned with the product vision and goals. Manage project and program timelines and milestones, escalating and addressing issues as they arise.
• Stakeholder Management. Assist in the design and implementation of processes for effective Stakeholder Management, communicating Legend Platform roadmaps, demos and feedback sessions. Collaborate effectively with Data Engineering and Legend Platform stakeholders across the firm, fostering strong relationships and aligning efforts towards delivering on GS' data strategy and delivering value to divisions.
• Communications & Reporting. Assist in the preparation of strategic reports with clear, concise communication that demonstrates the Legend Platform's business impact. Prepare regular executive-level presentations for senior Data Engineering and divisional leadership, including progress on Legend platform roadmaps and product feature requests. This includes not only summarizing and ensuring progress on key deliverables, but also identifying and assessing potential future risks and developing proactive mitigation strategies.
• Data Analysis: Analyze data related to Legend Platform Product Operations, using data-driven insights to inform strategic decision-making and identify potential issues before they escalate. Analyze data to identify and remove bottlenecks, ensuring that the product development lifecycle runs smoothly and in a standardized way across Legend data platform components
• Strategic Process Improvement: Work closely with Data Engineering leadership to develop and implement processes to enhance developer experience and productivity. Proactively identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the Legend Platform team, proposing innovative solutions that enhance Product delivery.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's in a technical/ business degree or equivalent practical experience. 1-3 years of product/project management experience in a client (internal or external) facing role
• Project management. Strong project management abilities, including project planning, structuring work in incremental milestones, and ensuring timely delivery. Ability to set goals, meet deadlines and effectively communicate progress to stakeholders. Attention to detail and ability to spot process inefficiencies. Strong work ethic, a sense of ownership and urgency
• Agile & Jira. Familiarity with Agile processes and Jira/Confluence.
• Communication skills. Proven ability to influence and/or lead a cross-functional team without direct authority. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex problems and roadmaps to stakeholders. Proven ability to lead by example, with a positive attitude.
• Commercial drive. Ability to stay commercially focused and to always push for quantifiable commercial impact. A healthy obsession on customer satisfaction and the customer experience.
• Analytical skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to interpret and extract insights from data. Independent thinker, willing to engage, challenge or learn.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors in Computer Science, Business Administration, or related fields
• Familiarity with JIRA, GitLab, GitHub
• Familiarity with Design Thinking, Working Backwards Process, and OKR concepts
