Role (Primary title): Senior Scala Developer — On-site (India)

About the Opportunity

We are hiring an experienced Scala developer to join an engineering team building resilient, production-grade backend systems and streaming data platforms. This is a hands-on, on-site role focused on designing and implementing scalable JVM services, event-driven pipelines, and robust integrations with cloud infrastructure.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Design, implement and maintain high-performance Scala services and libraries following functional and reactive programming principles.
  • Build and operate streaming pipelines and event-driven systems using Kafka and Spark (or equivalent) to process high-volume data with low latency.
  • Develop and maintain microservices and RESTful APIs; enforce API contracts, versioning, and secure integrations.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to define system design, performance targets, and resilience patterns (circuit breakers, backpressure, clustering).
  • Containerize applications and manage deployments with Docker and Kubernetes; contribute to CI/CD pipelines and release automation.
  • Author unit and integration tests, perform code reviews, and drive engineering best practices for observability, logging and performance tuning.
Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Proficiency in Scala and strong understanding of JVM internals
  • Experience building reactive, distributed systems with Akka or similar frameworks
  • Hands-on experience with Kafka and stream processing (Apache Spark or equivalent)
  • Proven track record with microservices, REST APIs and service integration patterns
  • Containerization and orchestration experience using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Version control and CI/CD expertise (Git, pipelines, automated builds)

Preferred

  • Experience with Play Framework or other Scala web frameworks
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS) and managed streaming services
  • Familiarity with ScalaTest, Mockito and test-driven development practices
