The Manager - Product Engineering executes and oversees key aspects of product design and development, ensuring adherence to customer requirements and industry standards. This role involves leading the preparation of technical data, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), labour hour calculations, and first article support. The Manager ensures day-to-day operational alignment while contributing to process improvements and product innovation in Build-to-Print (BTP) and Build-to-Spec (BTS) programs.
Educational Qualification / Experience required
- Graduate/Postgraduate degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics).
- 13 + years of experience in wiring harness manufacturing company
- Proficiency in analysing technical documents and converting customer requirements into actionable plans.
- Experience in first article support, customer document management, and cross-functional coordination.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as AS9100, IPC, or ITAR is preferred.

1. Support Product Design and Development
- Interpret customer technical packs (e.g., drawings, part lists, specifications) and translate them into internal deliverables.
- Prepare and verify BOMs, ensuring all required components are identified for procurement.
- Conduct feasibility analysis for new projects, providing recommendations for design or process changes.
- Collaborate with the BU Product Engineering Head to resolve technical queries.
2. Oversee Day-to-Day Engineering Operations
- Break down RFQs into specific tasks and allocate responsibilities to the engineering team.
- Track and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery of technical deliverables.
- Conduct regular reviews to verify the accuracy and completeness of engineering outputs.
3. First Article and Serial Production Support
- Assist in the first article process by troubleshooting and addressing technical challenges.
- Provide clarifications to production teams based on past experience and project history.
- Document lessons learned from first article builds to improve future processes.
4. Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams
- Work with supply chain teams to ensure timely procurement of components for engineering tasks.
- Coordinate with quality teams to validate compliance with customer and regulatory standards.
- Participate in inter-departmental meetings to address dependencies and align objectives.
5. Enhance and Maintain Technical Documentation
- Convert customer-provided PDF or custom formats into internal specifications for BOM and labour calculations.
- Ensure proper documentation of changes through Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
- Maintain updated records of technical data in ERP systems, such as SAP.
6. Contribute to Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Support process improvement initiatives, such as lean methodologies, to optimize workflows.
- Provide inputs for adopting new tools, such as automated harnessing or advanced testing equipment.
- Collaborate on cross-BU improvement projects to enhance engineering processes.
7. Mentor and Support Engineering Team
- Provide technical mentorship to team members on BOM preparation, labor calculations, and first article processes.
- Conduct training sessions to ensure team alignment with customer and regulatory expectations.
- Support team morale and engagement through constructive feedback and career development discussions.
