Role Description

We at Edge & Cloud are looking to recruit for a L3 Switch Engineer Role (6-10 yrs experience). We are seeking a skilled and experienced L3 Switch Engineer to manage, configure, and troubleshoot complex Layer 3 switching environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in enterprise networking, routing protocols, and switch infrastructure, along with proven experience in supporting large-scale networks.

Responsibilities for Switch Engineer

·      Design, configure, and maintain L3 switches in enterprise and datacenter environments. Lead the delivery of network solutions including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers and other network hardware appliances.

·      L2/L3 functions (Routing and Switching) and protocols implementation, components integration in both kernel and user space (Ethernet/InfiniBand switch/router product lines)

·      Manage and troubleshoot advanced routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, IS-IS). - Implement VLANs, inter-VLAN routing, QoS, multicast, and advanced ACLs. Hands on experience on Routing Protocols like Default Routing, Static Routing, Dynamic Routing, BGP, OSPF, IGP, EGP, EIGRP, RIP, MPLS, TCP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, HTTPs, SSH, DHCP, inter VLAN routing, VTP, STP, TCP/IP Model, load balancing and WAN acceleration. Good understanding of the OSI Model.

·      Work with WAN, LAN, and campus networks for seamless connectivity. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate switching with firewalls, load balancers, and routers.

·      Experience of working on ITSM tools and good understanding of ITIL Framework comprising of Service Operations, Service Transition and Service Design. Working experience for Incident Management, Problem Management and Request Management, Event Management, Change Management, Knowledge Management, Release Management, Availability Management.

·      Ensure network uptime, performance, scalability through proactive monitoring and optimization.

·      Handle escalated L2/L3 incidents, perform RCA and implement permanent fixes.

·      Develop supplier roadmaps, drive network switch selection as the subject matter expert

·      Support network migrations, upgrades, and technology refresh projects.

·      Maintain documentation of network configurations, processes, and standards.

·      Ensure adherence to security best practices in switch configurations.

·      Utilized common network monitoring tools and network analyzers Wireshark to analyze and diagnose complex network issues, leading to reduction in average troubleshooting time and faster resolution of network incidents.

·      Conducting maintenance of network and implementing network upgrade tasks such as installing new hardware or software, upgrading existing devices, or making changes to network configurations.

·      Implementing security measures such as firewalls, VPNs Site-to-Site & Remote Access monitoring network activity for suspicious activity, and responding to security incidents.

·      Review and approve Professional Services Level of Efforts & Statements of Work

·      Create Levels of Effort and Statements of Work for services engagements

·      Create High-Level Designs, Low-Level Designs and other required documents

·      Work with Sales engineers to translate initial scope into actionable items

·      Provide day to day WAN and LAN design support for classified and unclassified networks

·      Customer, stakeholder and escalation management

Required Skills and Qualifications for Switch Engineer

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics etc.

• –8 years of hands-on experience in networking with a focus on L3 switch engineering.

• Strong understanding of Layer 2 & Layer 3 switching, spanning tree protocol (STP), VTP, EtherChannel, and HSRP/VRRP.

• Proficiency with routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, IS-IS). Solid knowledge of QoS, MPLS, and multicast technologies.

• Experience with Cisco Catalyst, Nexus, or equivalent vendor switches.

• Familiarity with network monitoring & troubleshooting tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, etc.).

• Cisco certifications [CCNA (mandatory), CCNP Enterprise/ CCIE (recommended).

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in high-pressure environments.

Good to have Skills for Switch Engineer

• Exposure to SDN (Software Defined Networking) solutions such as Cisco ACI or DNA Center.

• Knowledge of cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).

• Experience in automation using Python/Ansible for network configurations.
