Senior DevOps Engineer

Job Summary

Synechron is seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the organization's infrastructure automation, deployment processes, and cloud operations. This role is vital in building scalable, secure, and reliable development environments through automation best practices and modern orchestration tools. The successful candidate will develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure provisioning, oversee observability and security initiatives, and mentor junior team members. The role directly supports the organization's objectives for faster, safer, and more efficient software delivery in a cloud-native environment.

Software Requirements

Required:

• Version control and deployment automation: Git, Flux, ArgoCD (GitOps tools)

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform (v0.12+), Ansible (latest)

• Container orchestration: Kubernetes (latest stable)

• Scripting languages: Python, Bash, JavaScript (for automation tasks)

• Monitoring and observability: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry

• Security and compliance tools for vulnerability scanning and governance

Preferred:

• Cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, or Azure

• Kubernetes package management: Helm

• Additional automation/configuration: Chef, Puppet

Overall Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and manage CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitOps principles with Flux, ArgoCD, or similar tools

• Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and management using Terraform, Ansible, and Helm

• Optimize Kubernetes clusters for high availability, performance, and scalability

• Write and maintain automation scripts in Python, Bash, or JavaScript to support operational workflows

• Implement and enhance observability strategies using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and OpenTelemetry to monitor system health and performance

• Enforce security best practices, including vulnerability assessments, compliance automation, and secret management within pipelines

• Mentor and develop junior DevOps engineers, sharing best practices and ensuring team growth

• Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to streamline deployment processes and infrastructure upgrades

• Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in reliability, security, and operational efficiency

Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages (Essential):

• Python, Bash, JavaScript

Databases / Data Management:

• Not primary focus; familiarity with managed data stores or databases is advantageous but not mandatory

Cloud Technologies:

• Experience managing resources on AWS, GCP, or Azure platforms, including deployments, scaling, and cost management

Frameworks and Libraries:

• Helm for Kubernetes package management (preferred)

Development Tools & Methodologies:

• CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or equivalent)

• GitOps tools (Flux, ArgoCD)

• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)

• Monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry)

Security Protocols:

• Implementing security best practices in CI/CD workflows, vulnerability scanning, secret management, and compliance automation

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or related roles

• Proven track record in designing and managing automation and deployment strategies in cloud-native, containerized environments

• Hands-on experience working with Kubernetes, container orchestration, and microservices architectures

• Extensive experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with GitOps methodologies

• Strong understanding of security standards and best practices in cloud and container security

• Leadership experience mentoring junior engineers or leading automation initiatives

Day-to-Day Activities

• Develop, enhance, and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting automated software delivery

• Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Terraform, Ansible, and Helm

• Manage and optimize Kubernetes workloads to ensure availability, resilience, and scalability

• Write automation scripts and tools using Python, Bash, or JavaScript to support deployment and operational workflows

• Build and maintain observability dashboards and alerting systems using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and OpenTelemetry

• Conduct security reviews, vulnerability scans, and compliance automation within pipelines

• Review code and deployment configurations, share best practices, and facilitate knowledge sharing within the team

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during planning, deployment, and operational phases

• Document infrastructure architecture, operational procedures, and automation workflows

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

• Certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD), HashiCorp Terraform Associate, or related certifications are a plus

• Demonstrated continuous learning in DevOps, cloud platforms, security practices, and automation tools
