Job Description - Electrical SME (Datacenter Projects)

Position: Assistant Manager - Electrical Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Department: Datacenter Projects - Design & Build

Reporting to: Head - Datacenter Projects

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical SME to join our Datacenter Projects team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Electrical System Design, hands-on experience in project site execution, and the ability to transition into operational support and reliability management post-project handover. The role demands collaboration with cross-functional teams (HVAC, Civil, MEP, and Operations) to ensure successful design, delivery, and operations of datacenter facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design review and validation of electrical systems including HT/LT distribution, UPS, DG sets, transformers, switchgear, PDUs, bus ducts, earthing, and lighting.

  • Ensure designs comply with datacenter standards, codes, safety regulations, and best practices for reliability and energy efficiency.

  • Collaborate with HVAC, civil, and other MEP SMEs to integrate systems seamlessly.

  • Project Execution

  • Oversee on-site electrical project execution including installation, testing, and commissioning.

  • Monitor contractor/vendor activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Conduct quality checks and coordinate with consultants, OEMs, and service providers.

  • Prepare and review technical documentation, shop drawings, and method statements.

  • Operations & Handover

  • Support smooth transition from project phase to steady-state operations.

  • Provide training and documentation to the operations team.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and recommend improvements for system performance and reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in power efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (Masters preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical systems for large infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in datacenter projects.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution systems, UPS, DG, transformers, STS, ATS, grounding, and energy efficiency practices.
  • Hands-on experience in project execution and commissioning of datacenter electrical systems.
  • Exposure to datacenter operational environments (Tier III/Tier IV standards preferred).
  • Familiarity with international design standards (IEEE, NFPA, IEC, BIS, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute).
  • Excellent stakeholder management, vendor coordination, and problem-solving skills.
