Job Description

The Cloud Platform Engineer Manager is a full stack engineer manager who oversees day-to-day operations of architects and provides directly with cloud application development and hosting platforms for Allstate. This role will have the primary accountability of managing architecting, owning, developing, implementing, and operating Allstate's Cloud platforms. This role will also encompass architecting, developing, building, administering, and deploying self-service tools that enable Allstate developers to build, deploy and operate cloud native applications. As a Cloud Platform Engineer Manager, will provide direction and guidance for direct reports being the anchor for engineering teams primarily working in a paired programming team, collaborating with different team members. They serve as a thought leader in advocating technology solutions and engineering practices that define the product engineering space. They independently determine and evaluate new products, software, and projects; and leads the effort to adapt these technologies into the platform. They lead cross product team and cross engineering team collaboration and ensure the integration and compatibility of services. They set performance expectations that help build and establish the engineering practices across team with a focus on system and operational efficiency. They will serve as the team lead being the organizational anchor to establish practices for paired programming, test driven development, a craftsmanship and continuous delivery for the team.

Allstate is looking for an experienced leader to accelerate its move into the public cloud. This role sits within the Allstate Cloud Engineering group, which is responsible for making cloud adoption seamless and secure across Allstate and its Family of Companies.

The Provisioning Services Managing Engineer leads a team of engineers focused on building, automating, and securing Allstate's cloud services. This includes managing provisioning services that leverage OpenTofu for infrastructure as code (IaC). The team operates with an XP mindset, actively pairing across time zones and collaborating closely with product managers to deliver scalable, resilient cloud solutions.

• Lead and mentor a dedicated provisioning services team responsible for designing and implementing infrastructure using OpenTofu and other IaC tools.
• Oversee the development and automation of cloud provisioning workflows across Azure, AWS, and GCP.
• Ensure provisioning practices align with security, compliance, and operational standards.
• Drive adoption of immutable infrastructure and as-a-service models across engineering teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and evolve infrastructure roadmaps.
• Promote best practices in infrastructure design, including multi-region deployments, high availability, and stateless/stateful architectures.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence within the provisioning domain.

• Four-year degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related area, or equivalent work experience
• 5-8+ years of application development and infrastructure engineering experience

• Extensive experience leading engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, facilitating one-on-one coaching sessions, and managing HR-related duties to support team development and organizational alignment

• Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional

• Able to mentor different teams across the various engineering practices including extreme programming, product mindset, cloud/as-a-service approach, and infrastructure as code
• Hands-on style - willingness and competence in producing necessary changes in our infrastructure and processes
• Able to facilitate diverse teams, time zones, multi-task, and work under pressure to meet aggressive schedule targets
• Proven experience leading teams in cloud provisioning and automation, especially with Terraform or OpenTofu.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure lifecycle management, including versioning, testing, and deployment of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Ability to translate business needs into scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Experience mentoring engineers in extreme programming, cloud-native architectures, and IaC principles.
• Able to work effectively across organizational and geographical boundaries
• Identify creative solutions for technical challenges
• Able to communicate effectively across groups of diverse backgrounds
• Ability to communicate and present ideas and solutions
