Were seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who can think creatively and build practically an engineer whos as comfortable designing a complex assembly in CAD as they are tuning a prototype on the bench.

This role spans research, design, and fabrication, contributing to advanced robotics, smart product systems, and the development of functional mechanical rigs and fixtures used in innovation, testing, and exhibition environments.

From robotic mobility platforms to precision assemblies and automated jigs, your designs will form the mechanical backbone of our experimental and client-facing systems at the Innovation Hub.

Responsibilities Design & Engineering

• Design and develop mechanical systems, enclosures, assemblies, and fixtures for robotics, automation, and intelligent product prototypes.
• Create and manage 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
• Conduct motion analysis, FEA, and thermal or load simulations to optimize performance and reliability.
• Design mechanical test rigs, durability setups, and precision alignment fixtures for validation of moving parts and embedded systems.
• Specify materials, finishes, tolerances, and manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, composite, additive).
• Ensure designs are serviceable, modular, and manufacturable, suitable for both one-off prototypes and scalable production.

Prototyping, Fabrication & Integration

• Translate designs into reality using 3D printing, CNC machining, laser cutting, or in-house fabrication tools.
• Collaborate with fabrication teams and vendors to produce precision components and assemblies.
• Oversee the assembly, alignment, and functional testing of prototypes, rigs, and smart systems.
• Integrate mechanical components with electrical, control, and sensor systems — ensuring smooth mechanical-electronic interfacing.
• Support electromechanical design reviews with the EEE engineer to align mounting, wiring, and enclosure requirements.
• Build adjustable and instrumented test fixtures for durability, motion, or environmental testing.

Client Interaction, Installation & Demonstration

• Participate in client installations and product demonstrations, ensuring systems are mechanically reliable and visually refined.
• Assist in setup, calibration, and exhibition of prototype systems, ensuring functional and aesthetic excellence.
• Work with partners and visiting professionals to adapt, install, and demonstrate new technologies for the built environment.
• Provide technical input during client engagements, helping explain mechanical systems and design principles in practical terms.

Innovation Hub & R&D Support

• Maintain and upgrade mechanical systems and exhibition rigs within the Innovation Hub — including kinetic displays and interactive mechanisms.
• Support cross-disciplinary R&D involving robotics, smart materials, structural design, and mechanical sensing.
• Design and document mechanical assemblies and jigs that enable experimental validation of new product concepts.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and product teams to integrate new mechanical-electronic assemblies into functional prototypes.

Preferred candidate profile

Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and drafting (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or equivalent).

• Knowledge of mechanical design principles, including tolerancing, fastener selection, and motion design.
• Familiarity with mechanical fixtures, jigs, and test equipment design for R&D and validation purposes.
• Experience with manufacturing processes — machining, sheet metal, composite fabrication, and rapid prototyping.
• Hands-on ability to prototype, assemble, and troubleshoot complex mechanical systems.
• Understanding of mechanical-electrical integration, mounting of sensors, actuators, and control modules.
• Working knowledge of FEA and mechanical simulation tools.
• Comfortable working with CNC, 3D printers, and workshop tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail and finish quality.
• Excellent collaboration and communication for cross-functional and client-facing work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 3–7 years of experience in mechanical design, prototyping, or R&D environments.
