The Role: Technical Horticulturist
This is a
full-time, on-site
role at our Trichy facility. The Technical Horticulturist will be the core subject matter expert, driving the successful development and implementation of best-in-class horticultural practices across our nursery, greenhouse, and outdoor cultivation systems.
You will be directly responsible for the health, quality, and volume of our high-value crops, including
blueberries, raspberries
, and other specialty varieties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Management:
Develop, implement, and rigorously manage all growing protocols to ensure the timely and high-volume release of premium-quality nursery plants. - Integrated Crop Management (ICM):
Oversee all aspects of
fertigation
,
climate management
, and
Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM)
within the cultivation systems. - Substrate Expertise:
Serve as the primary expert in
substrate hydroponic growing
and actively manage any related issues to maintain optimal crop performance. - Team Leadership & Training:
Train, mentor, and supervise all levels of staff involved in the HortBio nursery system to ensure consistent adherence to high-quality production standards. - Applied Research:
Apply a strong understanding of
plant physiology
to troubleshoot growth challenges, optimize development, and continuously improve yields and plant vigor.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of
two (2) years of demonstrated, hands-on experience
in a technical horticultural or agronomist role. - Thorough and essential understanding of substrate hydroponic growing
and the management of associated issues (e.g., nutrient solution balancing, water quality). - Demonstrated expertise in
plant health management
, including effective pest and disease prevention and control strategies. - Solid foundation in
plant physiology
as it relates to commercial plant growth, development, and environmental stress. - Bachelor's degree in
Horticulture, Agriculture, Agronomy
, or a closely related field.
Highly Desired:
- Proven experience in a
leadership or supervisory position
within a commercial horticultural production setting. - Direct experience with the
greenhouse production of high-value crops
(such as soft fruits, specialty vegetables, or ornamentals).
