Position Overview

The College seeks a qualified and dedicated Library Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of the library. The role involves assisting students, faculty, and staff with access to library materials, maintaining records, and ensuring smooth functioning of library services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acquisition: Assist with preparation of quotations and purchase orders; handling enquiries via mail and phone calls.
  • Physical verification of books/periodicals after receiving from vendors/suppliers.
  • Data entry of bibliographic details of books and periodicals.
  • Assist in preparing new arrivals lists.
  • Accessioning of books in the register and software.
  • Book processing work: Assist in allotting accession numbers/preparing book cards for newly purchased books.
  • Circulation section: daily handling of issue/return/reservation transactions (manual/automated).
  • Membership data entry/issue of borrower cards (manual/automated).
  • Sending overdue reminders, fine collection, and settling loss of documents.
  • Periodical section: Assist in annual subscription/renewal of journals/magazines.
  • Preparing lists of back issues/volumes for dispatching for binding.
  • Guiding students in accessing online resources.
  • Monitoring housekeeping activities in the library.
  • Shelving of books.
  • Assist in preparation of circulars and other reports.
  • Assist in tracking submission of dissertations, project reports, log books, and practice school records from students and departments.
  • Assist the librarian in routine activities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Educational Qualifications: D.Lib, C.Lib, and B.Lib.I.Sc (mandatory).
  • Good knowledge of library management systems and digital cataloguing.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to assist students and staff with patience and professionalism.
