Inviting applications for the role of [Manager Category Clustering], [Clustering Strategy & Development]
In this role, Manager, Category Clustering will play an integral role in establishing a new & high-priority business process. This role will be responsible for the development and maintenance of clusters\: groups of stores and/or categories that share similar customer demographics, regional preferences, or purchasing behaviours. These clusters will influence future merchandising strategies across the chain, including assortment selection and space allocation. This individual will be the operational owner of clustering, leveraging & optimizing standardized models in store clustering software and providing actionable insights back to the business. Success in this role ensures that clusters maximize sales & profit, while improving inventory productivity and contributing to a positive customer experience.
Responsibilities
• Run, maintain, and optimize clustering models via solution provider (JDA/ Symphony AI).
• Seek to understand broader assortment & space planning strategies and how data driven clustering assignments can support these objectives.
• Partner closely with Segmentation Manager to continuously evolve clustering methodology based on changing market conditions, member preferences, and business goals.
• Provide clear cluster definitions, logic, and supporting data to cross-functional partners to ensure alignment and consistency.
• Assist Segmentation Manager in presenting clustering insights and recommendations, using compelling storytelling and data visualization. [List of responsibilities]
• Build, manage, & synthesize reporting to monitor the performance of clusters over time.
• Conduct analysis of clustering initiatives to assess impact and guide future refinements.
• Leverage BI & analytical tools (e.g., SAP Analysis, Tableau, JDA/ Symphony AI, Sitewise, Placer) to support analysis.
• Support strategic initiatives such as new store formats, market expansion, and competitive analysis using clustering insights as needed.
• Proactively surface observations & opportunities to improve clustering capabilities, tools, & processes.
Qualifications we seek in you
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Merchandising, Marketing, or a related field.
• Experience in Category Management, Merchandising, Analytics, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
• Experience leveraging large-scale retail datasets to inform business strategy via storytelling and data visualization.
• Proficiency in BI & analytical tools (e.g., SAP Analysis, Tableau, JDA/ Symphony AI).
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to simplify complex data into actionable strategies.
• Expertise in merchandising strategy, with prior clustering, segmentation, and/or localization experience preferred.
• Excellent collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
