Position Summary:

We are seeking an accomplished SAP Basis Architect with deep, hands-on experience in SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA landscapes. The ideal candidate will have a proven record of leading system migrations, upgrades, security hardening, enhancements, and performance monitoring across complex SAP environments.

This senior resource will also oversee SAP Security administration, ensuring compliance, role design integrity, and system protection across all SAP tiers. The role requires advanced technical knowledge of SAP Basis, Microsoft Azure infrastructure, and SQL Server database management.

Key Responsibilities:

SAP Basis & Infrastructure Leadership

• Lead the design, deployment, and administration of SAP ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA systems, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
• Manage system copies, refreshes, client strategy, and landscape optimization (DEV, QA, PROD).
• Execute SAP kernel upgrades, support package stacks, and enhancement packs.
• Ensure high system availability and integrity across all SAP components (ABAP, Java, and HANA).
• Mentor Basis and technical support teams, providing deep expertise in troubleshooting and system optimization.

SAP Security Administration

• Design, implement, and maintain SAP Security architecture, including roles, profiles, and authorizations for ECC, S/4HANA, BW, and Fiori.
• Manage user provisioning, access requests, and periodic access reviews in coordination with IT security and audit teams.
• Conduct Segregation of Duties (SoD) analysis and remediation using SAP GRC or equivalent tools.
• Ensure compliance with SOX, GDPR, and organizational IT security policies.
• Collaborate with auditors to provide documentation and support for security-related audits.
• Implement security baselines, password policies, and authorization concepts consistent with SAP and Azure best practices.
• Monitor and resolve security-related incidents and authorization errors.
• Support secure integrations between SAP systems and Azure, third-party applications, and on-prem resources.

Migration & Upgrade Projects

• Lead SAP migrations (on-prem to Azure, SQL to HANA, ECC to S/4HANA).
• Plan and execute technical upgrades, ensuring minimal downtime and alignment with SAP best practices.
• Perform Unicode conversions, OS/DB migrations, and SUM/DMO activities.
• Define and validate system sizing, capacity, and performance targets for cloud environments.

Azure Infrastructure Integration

• Design and manage SAP landscapes hosted on Microsoft Azure, including VM provisioning, storage, and network configuration.
• Integrate SAP systems with Azure Active Directory, Azure Monitor, and Defender for Cloud.
• Implement HA/DR configurations, backup strategies, and infrastructure automation using Azure-native tools.
• Optimize infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Database and System Administration

• Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting SAP systems, including backup, recovery, replication, and tuning.
• Support migrations to SAP HANA, ensuring data integrity and optimal performance.

Monitoring & Compliance

• Implement and manage SAP Solution Manager or Focused Run for proactive monitoring and alerting.
• Ensure systems adhere to organizational security and change management standards.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• 10+ years of hands-on SAP Basis administration (ECC 6.0 and S/4HANA).
• Proven experience in SAP Security management (roles, authorizations, compliance).
• Strong expertise with Microsoft Azure for SAP workloads.
• Advanced SQL Server administration experience.
• Demonstrated success in system upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning.
• Experience with SAP Solution Manager, SAP GRC, and Fiori Security preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting, leadership, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Terraform for automation.
• Knowledge of Linux (SUSE/Red Hat) and Windows Server environments.

• SAP or Microsoft certifications:

• SAP Certified Technology Specialist System Administration (S/4HANA or SAP HANA)

• SAP Certified Technology Associate Authorization and Auditing
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert

Education:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Masters preferred).
• Equivalent practical experience may be considered for highly qualified consultants.
