VP engineering Lead

15+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 7 years in engineering leadership roles, including VP or Senior Director level.

Location: Bangalore

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

Define and execute the long-term engineering vision and technical roadmap aligned with Toast's business goals.

Collaborate with executive leadership to influence product direction and innovation strategy.

Team Development & Management:

Lead and scale a high-performing engineering organization (200+ engineers).

Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Attract, retain, and mentor top engineering talent across multiple geographies.

Operational Excellence:

Ensure on-time and high-quality product delivery through best-in-class engineering processes.

Implement efficient development practices, including CI/CD, automation, and rigorous testing.

Drive uptime, scalability, and performance of mission-critical restaurant software systems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Partner with Product, UX, and Data teams to prioritize and execute engineering work.

Work closely with Sales, Support, and Customer Success to understand customer needs and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.

Technology Leadership:

Make strategic decisions on architecture, system design, and technology choices.

Champion modern software practices including cloud-native development, microservices, and data-driven engineering.

Qualifications:

15+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 7 years in engineering leadership roles, including VP or Senior Director level.

Proven track record of leading large-scale SaaS platforms in high-growth, product-led organizations.

Strong technical acumen in modern cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), distributed systems, DevOps, and scalable SaaS architecture.

Experience in building and managing global teams, including remote and hybrid teams.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Passion for the restaurant industry and Toast's mission is a strong plus.

Nice to Have:

Experience in fintech, payments, or POS systems.

Background in building systems with high reliability (e.g., 99.999% uptime).

Familiarity with regulatory and compliance environments (PCI, SOC2, etc.).
