Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled
Senior Electrical Design Engineer
with extensive experience in the
design and development of power/distribution transformers
(up to [specify kVA or MVA rating, e.g., 400kV/100MVA]). The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing and executing transformer design projects, ensuring compliance with international standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop custom and standard distribution and power transformers (oil-immersed or dry-type).
  • Perform electrical calculations including core and coil design, insulation coordination, short-circuit withstand, losses, temperature rise, and impedance.
  • Prepare and review design documentation, including technical specifications, electrical schematics, winding diagrams, and bill of materials (BOM).
  • Conduct thermal, magnetic, dielectric, and mechanical analysis in line with IEC, IEEE/ANSI, or other applicable standards.
  • Lead design reviews and coordinate with mechanical, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless product realization.
  • Provide technical support to sales, procurement, and quality departments, including preparation of customer bid packages and response to technical queries.
  • Interface with clients to gather requirements, present designs, and manage design approval processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in design methodology, software tools, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and compliance.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies, materials, and design approaches in the transformer industry.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in transformer design (distribution or power).
  • Deep understanding of transformer physics, materials, insulation systems, and cooling methods.
  • Proficiency in transformer design tools (e.g., EDEE, ANSYS Maxwell, Flux, MAGNET, or similar).
  • Familiarity with industry standards (IEC, IEEE, ANSI, IS, etc.).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Experience in ERP systems and engineering documentation tools (e.g., SAP, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specialized transformers (e.g., rectifier, furnace, traction, autotransformers).
  • Hands-on exposure to testing or failure analysis.
  • Project management experience or certification (PMP, PRINCE2).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and DFMEA practices.

Working Conditions

  • Office and factory floor-based.
  • Occasional travel to customer sites or testing labs.
  • Willingness to work extended hours to meet project deadlines if required.
