Job Title: Librarian

Department: Library

Job Summary

The Librarian is responsible for managing the library's daily operations, maintaining an organized collection of books and digital resources, supporting students and staff with research and reading needs, and promoting a culture of learning and literacy within the institution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Library Management

  • Organize, classify, and catalog books and other learning materials.
  • Maintain accurate library records, inventories, and digital databases.
  • Ensure proper shelving, labeling, and physical upkeep of all library resources.
  • Monitor book issuance and return; manage overdue records and fines if applicable.

2. Student & Staff Support

  • Assist students and teachers in locating books and research materials.
  • Guide students on reference skills, reading habits, and resource usage.
  • Provide support for project work, assignments, and academic activities.

3. Resource Development

  • Recommend new books, digital content, and educational resources based on curriculum and student needs.
  • Maintain subscriptions to newspapers, magazines, and journals.
  • Ensure availability of age-appropriate and curriculum-relevant materials.

4. Library Activities

  • Plan reading programs, book exhibitions, author visits, and literary events.
  • Promote reading habits through activities such as book clubs, storytelling sessions, and competitions.

5. Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain discipline and a quiet learning environment inside the library.
  • Prepare monthly and annual library reports.
  • Coordinate with teachers and administration for resource planning and event support.
  • Ensure adherence to library rules, policies, and safety guidelines.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's/master's in library science (B.Li.Sc / M.Li.Sc) or equivalent.

Skills Required:

  • Strong organizational and cataloging skills
  • Knowledge of library management systems (digital & manual)
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with digital resources, e-books, and online databases
  • Patience, student-friendly approach, and a passion for reading

Experience

  • Prior experience as a Librarian in a school/college/institution preferred.
  • Freshers with strong skills and qualifications may also apply.
