Hostel Caretaker

The Hostel Caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day management and supervision of hostel facilities, ensuring a safe, clean, and disciplined environment for all residents. The role involves administrative, maintenance, and student welfare tasks in coordination with the hostel warden and institutional authorities. Reports to the Hostel Warden

Role & responsibilities

• Maintain and update records of hostel residents, including check-in/out and room allotments.
• Monitor student attendance, leaves, and late returns.
• Keep visitor logs and ensure proper access control.
• Enforce hostel rules and maintain discipline among residents.
• Respond to emergencies calmly, ensuring resident safety and well-being.
• Oversee cleanliness and hygiene in rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
• Coordinate repairs, report maintenance issues, and supervise support staff.
• Manage hostel inventory, assets, and other facility resources.
• Support residents welfare, assist new students, and resolve conflicts.
• Liaise with authorities and submit regular reports on hostel operations

Preferred candidate profile

• Bachelors degree in any discipline, preferably Science or Psychology.
• 2–3 years of prior experience in hostel administration at a reputed or national-level institute.
• Basic understanding of maintenance, safety, and record-keeping procedures.
• Familiarity with student or resident management systems and protocols.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR (preferred, not mandatory).
• Training in Fire Safety or Facility/Hostel Management is an added advantage.
• Ability to handle grievances and resolve conflicts calmly and diplomatically.
• Strong disciplinary, supervisory, and crisis management skills.
• Basic computer literacy — email, spreadsheets, and hostel management tools.
• Good physical and mental stamina with readiness to be available during emergencies or odd hours.
