Role Overview:

The EHS Trainer is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering safety training programs to ensure a safe work environment during the construction phase of a thermal power plant. The trainer ensures that all personnel understand and follow safety regulations, industry standards, and site-specific EHS protocols.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Training Program Development

  2. Design and develop safety training modules specific to:

  3. Heavy lifting and rigging

  4. Hot work operations
  5. Confined space entry
  6. Scaffold safety
  7. Working at height
  8. Electrical safety during installation
  9. Permit-to-work systems

  10. Customize programs for different audiences (workers, supervisors, engineers, Manager ).

  11. Training Delivery

  12. Conduct induction training for all workers and contractors entering the site.

  13. Deliver job-specific safety training (e.g., for welders, riggers, crane operators).
  14. Use visual aids, practical simulations, and real incident case studies for engagement.

  15. Compliance & Documentation

  16. Ensure all training is aligned with:

  17. Local, legal and regulatory standards (e.g., Factories Act, BOCW Rules in India)

  18. International safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001)

  19. Maintain training records, attendance logs, and evaluation results.

  20. Ensure workers receive refresher training periodically or after incidents.

  21. Hazard Awareness & Risk Communication

  22. Educate workers on site-specific hazards:

  23. Boiler erection risks

  24. Turbine hall work zone hazards
  25. Fall zones from structures or scaffolds

  26. Promote proactive reporting of near misses and unsafe acts.

  27. Coordination with EHS and Project Teams

  28. Liaise with EHS Manager and Site Safety Officers to identify training needs.

  29. Support incident investigations with root cause analysis training.
  30. Participate in safety audits and recommend corrective action training.

  31. Emergency Preparedness Training

  32. Train workers on:

  33. Emergency evacuation plans

  34. Use of firefighting equipment
  35. First aid and CPR (basic level)

  36. Conduct regular mock drills and fire drills in coordination with site teams.

  37. Continuous Improvement

  38. Collect feedback from trainees and site supervisors.

  39. Update training materials based on:

  40. Regulatory changes

  41. Incident trends
  42. Project phase transitions (e.g., civil to mechanical to commissioning)
