DevOps Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a
DevOps Engineer
(freelance) to join our distributed team. This is a
fully remote
role with
flexible hours
– you decide when you work, as long as milestones and deadlines are met. The position requires occasional travel to client sites (for meetings, onboarding, or support) when necessary. In this dynamic role you will take ownership of end-to-end DevOps operations, working across development, QA, and infrastructure teams. You will implement and maintain industry-leading automation, CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration, monitoring, and security practices. • Infrastructure Automation:
  Design and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform and Ansible. Automate provisioning of scalable environments on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure). Keep resources elastic and responsive to change.
• CI/CD Pipeline Management:
  Build and manage automated pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, etc.) for building, testing, and deploying applications. Leverage CI/CD best practices to accelerate release cycles and reduce manual effort.
• Containerization & Orchestration:
  Containerize applications with Docker and deploy them to Kubernetes clusters. Use containers to ensure consistency across environments and to support microservices architectures.
• Monitoring & Logging:
  Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and logging (e.g. Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) to provide real-time visibility into system performance and health.
• Set up dashboards and alerts to proactively identify and resolve issues, ensuring high reliability.
• Cloud Operations & Scripting:
  Manage production and staging environments on AWS and Azure, including compute, networking, and storage. Write scripts (Bash, Python) and automation for routine tasks and maintenance. Automate responses to incidents and streamline operational workflows.
• Security & Compliance:
  Integrate DevSecOps practices into the pipeline. Enforce security best practices (e.g. policy-as-code, automated compliance checks, secrets management) so that we move quickly without sacrificing security.
• . Coordinate with security teams to remediate vulnerabilities and ensure configurations meet organizational standards.
• Collaboration & Documentation:
  Work closely with developers, QA, and stakeholders to understand requirements and support rapid delivery. Communicate status clearly, document procedures, and help triage issues. Occasionally travel for client workshops or on-site support as needed.

Requirements

• Experience:
  Several years of proven experience in DevOps, site reliability, or infrastructure engineering roles. Track record of managing production systems in cloud environments.
• Cloud Platforms:
  Hands-on expertise with
  AWS
  and
  Azure
  services (EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, Azure VMs, etc.)
• Familiarity with hybrid cloud and multi-cloud deployments is a plus.
• Containerization:
  Deep experience with
  Docker
  and
  Kubernetes
  to package and orchestrate applications
• . Ability to design container networking and manage container lifecycles.
• IaC & Automation:
  Strong skills in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and configuration management (Ansible, etc.). Proven ability to automate setup, configuration, and maintenance of servers and environments.
• CI/CD & Tools:
  Proficient in setting up and managing CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Azure DevOps, etc.)
• Familiarity with version control (Git) and agile development workflows. Experience with build and release management.
• Monitoring & Logging Tools:
  Experience with monitoring/alerting solutions (Prometheus, Grafana) and log platforms (ELK/Elastic Stack) to diagnose performance issues.
• Able to correlate metrics and logs to troubleshoot incidents.
• Scripting:
  Strong scripting skills (Bash and/or Python) for writing automation scripts, utilities, and small applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certifications in cloud platforms or DevOps tools (e.g. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, CKAD/CKA, Azure DevOps Engineer).
• Familiarity with other pipeline or IaC tools (e.g. GitLab Auto DevOps, Helm, Pulumi, CloudFormation).
• Experience with security and compliance standards (e.g. DevSecOps, CIS benchmarks, ISO27001).
• Prior remote/freelance experience with a proven history of successful independent engagements.
