Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Vertica & Voltage SecureData Administrator to manage and maintain our enterprise data warehouse and encryption platforms. The role involves full lifecycle administration of Vertica databases (installation, upgrades, backup, optimization) and Voltage SecureData Appliance (encryption key management, HSM integration, tokenization setup). The candidate will ensure high availability, data security, and compliance across our analytics and data governance environment.

Key Responsibilities

Vertica Administration

  • Install, configure, and upgrade Vertica clusters (Enterprise & Eon modes).
  • Set up communal storage integration with MinIO or S3.
  • Create and manage databases, schemas, projections, users, and roles.
  • Optimize performance via projection design, resource pools, and query budgets.
  • Configure VBR (Vertica Backup & Restore) for full and incremental backups.
  • Manage backup storage, retention, and restore-point testing.
  • Integrate Vertica with ETL tools (Pentaho) and BI layers.
  • Perform log monitoring, capacity planning, and disaster recovery drills.

Voltage SecureData Administration

  • Install and configure Voltage SecureData Appliance nodes.
  • Manage tokenization, format-preserving encryption (FPE), and policy settings.
  • Configure and maintain Entrust nShield Connect XC/Utimaco Atalla HSM integration for key security.
  • Perform appliance patching, key rotation, and configuration backup.
  • Troubleshoot encryption/decryption API and connector issues.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for key lifecycle and audit trails.

System Integration & Automation

  • Automate administrative tasks with shell or Python scripts.
  • Configure external tables (Parquet, ORC, Iceberg) using object storage.
  • Support application teams in secure data masking and retrieval processes

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure alignment with data protection standards.
  • Maintain SOPs for installation, upgrade, and backup/restore procedures.
  • Document system topologies, configurations, and security controls.
  • Participate in audits and vulnerability assessments.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years experience with Vertica administration.
  • Hands-on with Voltage SecureData Appliance and HSM (Entrust nShield/Utimaco Atalla).
  • Proficient in Linux (RHEL/SUSE), SQL scripting, and system automation.
  • Strong understanding of encryption, key management, and masking.
  • Familiarity with ETL tools and BI ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of cloud or on-prem object storage (S3, MinIO).
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
