Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced 3B2 Composer with a strong background in automated pagination and typesetting for books, journals, and other publications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and maintaining templates, automating layouts, and ensuring the highest level of typographic quality using 3B2 (Arbortext APP). Experience in the STM (Science, Technical, and Medical) publishing industry is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and modify 3B2 templates for automated typesetting workflows.
• Execute high-quality pagination for books, journals, and complex content structures.
• Handle XML/MathML/SGML inputs and ensure accurate rendering using 3B2.
• Collaborate with editors, designers, and production teams to understand layout specifications.
• Ensure compliance with client stylesheets and journal/book-specific layout requirements.
• Perform pre-flight checks and troubleshoot layout issues.
• Optimize composition automation using scripting/macros.
• Provide technical support and documentation for 3B2 template usage.
• Meet project deadlines while maintaining accuracy and formatting quality.

Required Skills:

• Proficiency in 3B2 (Arbortext APP) for composition and automation.
• Experience with XML, XSLT, and XPath in the publishing workflow.
• Good understanding of typographic rules, layout standards, and design principles.
• Knowledge of MathML/LaTeX handling in structured content.
• Familiarity with automated pagination and template-driven workflows.
• Problem-solving skills in debugging layout issues.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with InDesign, LaTeX, or other typesetting tools is a plus.
• Background in STM or academic publishing.
• Knowledge of publishing standards like JATS, BITS, NLM DTDs.
• Experience with version control and workflow systems like K4, RSuite, or similar.
