Description:

IBSAUD College is working to strengthen
foundational research skills
in developing regions, to drives
innovation, problem-solving, and meaningful solutions
.

We're starting with a small, global cohort of
fellows
and are looking for volunteer mentors who can help them understand how research actually works — from asking the right questions to interpreting results.

This is a
flexible, part-time volunteer role
with shared responsibility across mentors.

Your role as a mentor would be to support fellows in building foundational research skills, including (but not limited to):

  • Understanding what research is (and what it is not)
  • Reading and using academic literature effectively
  • Study design essentials
  • Analytical and research thinking
  • Writing, reporting, and interpreting research
  • Helping fellows shape and refine their capstone project
  • Participating in final feedback or evaluation (light involvement)

Mentors
co-design and deliver sessions together
, so no one carries the load alone.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of research methodologies, scientific writing, and data analysis
  • Experience in project development, mentorship, or teaching in a STEM context
  • Proficient in communication, team collaboration, and providing constructive feedback
  • Familiarity with open-source research tools and technologies is a plus
  • Ability to foster inclusive and supportive environments for diverse participants
  • Passion for global development and empowering underrepresented communities in science
  • Advanced degree or relevant experience in a STEM field (e.g., life sciences, engineering, or computer science)
