Job Description Area Head (Agency Channel Motor Insurance)

Position: Area Head – Agency Channel (Motor Insurance)

Department: Sales & Distribution – General Insurance

Reports to: Regional Sales Manager / Zonal Head

Role Summary

The Area Head will be responsible for driving Motor Insurance business through the Agency Channel within the assigned geography. The role requires leading a team of Agency Managers/Branch Managers, ensuring growth in agent network, achieving premium and policy issuance targets, maintaining persistency, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Business Growth & Sales Management

  2. Achieve monthly/quarterly/yearly targets for motor insurance premium and policy issuance.

  3. Drive cross-selling and upselling of other General Insurance products.

  4. Monitor sales productivity across branches/territories and implement corrective actions.

  5. Team Leadership

  6. Manage and lead a team of Agency Sales Managers / Unit Managers.

  7. Set goals, track performance, and ensure achievement of business objectives.

  8. Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback to team members.

  9. Channel Development (Agency Network)

  10. Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality insurance agents (PoSP/Advisors).

  11. Improve agent activation, retention, and productivity.

  12. Ensure a steady pipeline of new agency partners to expand market penetration.

  13. Training & Development

  14. Organize regular training sessions for team members and agents on motor insurance products, processes, and compliance.

  15. Build capabilities to improve customer handling, lead conversion, and claim servicing support.

  16. Customer Relationship Management

  17. Ensure customer satisfaction through timely policy issuance, servicing, and claim support.

  18. Drive persistency and renewal collection.

  19. Resolve escalated issues from customers/agents in a professional and timely manner.

  20. Compliance & Governance

  21. Ensure adherence to IRDAI regulations and company policies across all activities.

  22. Maintain high standards of documentation, reporting, and audit readiness.
  23. Promote ethical selling and business practices.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

  • Achieving area-level premium and policy issuance targets.
  • Active agent ratio and growth in agency network.
  • Productivity per agent and per Agency Manager.
  • Persistency/renewal ratios.
  • Market share growth in assigned geography.
  • Employee engagement and retention within the team.
  • Compliance and zero regulatory violations.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Education: Graduate/Postgraduate (MBA preferred).
  • Experience: 1–8 years in General Insurance sales (at least 3–5 years in leadership role, preferably in Agency/PoSP channel, with strong exposure to Motor Insurance).

  • Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets.
  • In-depth knowledge of Motor Insurance products and distribution channels.
  • Strong market networking and business development ability.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
