Role Description

This is a contract-based role for Occupant Safety Simulation Engineer located in Chennai. The primary responsibilities include setting up, performing & analyzing results of complex crash and occupant safety simulations to assess vehicle safety and optimizing designs to meet global safety standards – Regulatory as well as 3
rd
party consumer ratings. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams across globe to ensure integration of occupant safety requirements into vehicle designs, helping shape the next generation of safe and reliable vehicles. Additional tasks include preparing technical reports, troubleshooting simulation models, and staying updated on the latest tools and safety standards.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience -
    3 to 15 years of progressive experience in Crash Analysis within the CAE Safety domain, focusing on vehicle and occupant protection.
  • FE Model Expertise -
    A minimum of 2 years of direct, hands-on experience in Safety FE Model Building and Integration (full vehicle, subsystem, and component level).
  • Mandatory Tools -
    Mandatory proficiency in industry-leading pre-processing, solving, and post-processing tools: Primer, ANSA, and LS-DYNA.
  • Academic Background
  • Strong engineering fundamentals are essential, with a postgraduate degree (M.E./M.Tech. in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent) preferred.
  • Core Mechanics
  • Solid understanding of Classical and Applied Mechanics, particularly Strength of Materials, to accurately interpret simulation results and propose design changes.

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Physics & Reasoning
  • Strong grasp of physics fundamentals and logical reasoning to predict, analyze, and troubleshoot complex non-linear crash events.
  • Automation/Plus Skills
  • Experience with HBM (Human Body Models), Python scripting for automation/process development, and familiarity with AI/ML tools in a CAE-safety context is a significant advantage.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) for presenting results, collaborating with cross-functional design, testing, and program teams, and generating comprehensive reports.

  • Demonstrates a high learning aptitude, with a curious and inquisitive mindset towards new technologies and methodologies (e.g., NCAP VT protocols, regulatory changes, use of Jupyter notebooks).
