Senior BI Developer - Platform Migration

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Intelligence Developer to lead a critical, large-scale migration initiative from MSSQL/MicroStrategy environment to a modern data platform built on Databricks, dbt, and Power BI. This is a transformational role that will shape the future of analytics infrastructure and empower data-driven decision making across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Migration Leadership

• Design and execute the migration strategy from MSSQL and MicroStrategy to Databricks, dbt, and Power BI
• Assess existing BI reports, dashboards, and data models to determine migration priorities and requirements
• Rebuild and optimize MicroStrategy reports and dashboards in Power BI, ensuring feature parity and improved performance
• Translate SQL-based data transformations into dbt models following best practices
• Establish data quality validation processes to ensure migration accuracy

Technical Development

• Develop scalable data models and transformation pipelines using dbt on Databricks
• Create interactive, visually compelling Power BI dashboards and reports that meet business requirements
• Optimize SQL queries and Spark-based transformations for performance on Databricks
• Implement version control, testing, and CI/CD practices for analytics code
• Build reusable data marts and semantic layers to support self-service analytics

Collaboration & Documentation

• Partner with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements
• Document migration processes, data lineage, and technical architecture
• Train team members and end-users on new BI tools and capabilities
• Establish best practices and governance standards for the new platform

Required Qualifications

Technical Expertise

• 5+ years of BI development experience with proven track record of delivering enterprise analytics solutions
• Strong MicroStrategy experience, including report development, dashboard creation, and platform administration
• Advanced SQL skills with experience in MSSQL Server and query optimization
• Power BI expertise, including DAX, Power Query, data modeling, and report design
• dbt proficiency with understanding of data transformation best practices, testing, and documentation
• Databricks/Spark experience or strong willingness to learn cloud-based data platforms

Migration Experience

• Demonstrated experience with large-scale BI platform migrations or transformations
• Ability to assess legacy systems and design modern architectural solutions
• Experience with data validation and reconciliation during migration projects

Additional Skills

• Understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, and data warehouse concepts
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and DevOps practices
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Azure cloud services (Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, etc.)
• Knowledge of Python for data processing and automation
• Certifications in Power BI, Databricks, or dbt
• Experience with agile project methodology
• Background in data architecture or data engineering
