POSITION DESCRIPTION: Quality Engineer Welding
Position Overview
As a Quality Engineer Welding , you will play a pivotal role in ensuring welding and fabrication quality standards on the shop floor. You will be hands-on in inspecting, monitoring, and maintaining welding quality processes, driving compliance with international welding standards (e.g., ISO 3834, AWS D1.1). This role requires technical expertise, a passion for quality assurance, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic shop-floor environment while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure defect-free outputs.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Welding Quality Inspection and Assurance
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesEnsure welding activities meet quality standards and customer specifications. Conduct regular inspections of welded components and ensure compliance with ISO 3834 and AWS D1.1 standards.
Perform visual inspections and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques to detect defects.
Monitor welding parameters, electrode usage, and consumables.
2. Shop Floor Quality Monitoring
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesMaintain welding quality standards on the shop floor.. Actively monitor ongoing welding operations to identify deviations and enforce corrective actions.
Collaborate with welders and supervisors to address process variations and prevent rework.
Ensure proper documentation of inspection records and maintain traceability.
3. Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesPerform NDT procedures and interpret results for welding quality assurance. Conduct NDT techniques such as Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), and Dye Penetrant Testing (PT).
Analyze NDT results and recommend corrective measures.
Ensure adherence to safety protocols during NDT operations.
4. Defect Analysis and Corrective Actions
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesMinimize welding defects and ensure process improvements. Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) for recurring welding defects.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding processes.
Drive shop floor operators to adhere to quality processes.
5. Compliance and Documentation
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesEnsure proper documentation and compliance with standards. Maintain quality records, welding logs, and inspection documents accurately.
Support internal and external quality audits related to welding processes.
Assist in the preparation of quality reports and compliance documentation.
6. Training and Development
AccountabilitiesResponsibilitiesBuild operator capability in welding quality standards. Train welders and operators on welding techniques, quality requirements, and defect prevention.
Conduct toolbox talks and awareness sessions on quality procedures.
Evaluate operator performance related to welding quality.
Reports to be Prepared and Submitted:
Daily Welding Inspection Report: Track daily welding operations, defects, and rectifications.
Weekly Defect Analysis Report: Analyze recurring defects and RCA outcomes.
Monthly Compliance Report: Ensure adherence to ISO 3834 and AWS D1.1 standards.
Training Records: Maintain logs of operator training and certifications.
NDT Reports: Document all Non-Destructive Testing results with observations and corrective actions.

Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Diploma in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering (DME).
- Part-time BE candidates may also apply (Full-time BE/B.Tech graduates are not preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 4 years hands-on experience in welding or fabrication on the shop floor.
Geographical Preference:
- Candidates residing within 50 km of Ranipet, Vellore, or Gudiyattam are strongly preferred.
Certifications: (Preferred)
- CSWIP or ASNT Level II certifications (preferred).
Skills and Competencies
Must-Haves
In-depth knowledge of welding standards (ISO 3834, AWS D1.1).
Proficiency in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques.
Strong expertise in welding defect analysis and RCA tools.
Hands-on experience in welding shop floor operations.
Proficiency in maintaining quality documentation and traceability records.
Ability to train and guide shop floor operators on welding quality standards.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience with audit preparation and compliance management.
Familiarity with 5S and Lean Manufacturing principles.
Basic knowledge of SAP or ERP systems.
Exposure to cross-functional collaboration and communication skills.
