Key Responsibilities
As Privacy Advocate, youll have a broad range of responsibilities providing legal research and guidance on initiatives impacting international privacy laws and related data protection and security matters. You will partner cross-functionally with our legal, product, engineering, and other teams to advise on privacy law matters and related data uses while managing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Regulatory Analysis - Analyze the legal landscape and developments globally in the data privacy and data protection space including UK DPA, EU GDPR, California CCPA/CPRA, US state privacy laws, Brazil LGPD, Australia Privacy Act, etc.
- Privacy Subject Matter Expertise - Provide privacy and data security subject-matter expertise and guidance to cross-functional software development teams and legal colleagues.
- Independent Legal Briefs Write legal briefs and independent articles about data privacy regulations including comparisons across jurisdictions.
- Privacy Impact Assessments - Conduct thorough privacy impact assessments to identify and address potential risks. Provide recommendations for mitigating privacy concerns in the product development lifecycle. Collaborate with technical teams to map and classify data, ensuring alignment with privacy requirements.
- Certifications Support – Collaborate with incident response team to provide analytical support during security certifications and/or privacy incidents. Respond to privacy and security-related customer and regulatory inquiries.
- Customer Engagement – Act as a privacy advocate in customer interactions, addressing inquiries and concerns related to product privacy.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Law or related fields.
- A JD and active membership in at least one state bar.
- Sound and practical business judgment, intellectual creativity, strong ethical compass, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent legal research skills
- Excellent writing skills
- Certifications in Privacy such as CIPP from organizations like IAPP are a strong plus.
- Experience advising on privacy and data security in commercial transactions a plus.
- Experience driving, prioritizing, and effectively managing cross-functional initiatives, and an ability to both work independently and with multi-stakeholder teams.
