RAA is assisting a client to recruit a Senior Accountant and a Junior Accountant.
The Senior Accountant will play a key role in designing and delivering accurate, timely, and insightful reports to the Shareholders, Board and Management team of Modern Packaging. The postholder will also provide ad hoc assistance on special projects undertaken by the Company as and when required. The junior accountant will work closely with this Senior Accountant.
The Company a flexible printing company, based in the UK, is a fully owned subsidiary of an entity which is one of two holding companies of a prominent family office based in the UK. Together, the family own a global business with a forecast turnover of 300 million in 2025 generated from operating several companies in the food, hotel, leisure, printing and construction industries. Collectively, it has presence and operations in the UK, India, Romania, Netherlands, Spain and US employing c.1,300 staff.
Senior Accountant Job Description
The Senior Accountant will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting to Shareholders, the Board, and Management. This is a pivotal role ensuring strong financial control, compliance, and continuous process improvement, while also supporting ad-hoc projects as required.
Skills & Experience
- Qualified Accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with post-qualification experience (Senior)
- Accountant with experience in UK GAAP
- 4–6 years' experience, ideally in a small privately owned business (flexible printing industry preferred)
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS and SAGE
- Proven experience with Sage; strong Excel skills
- Experience with Filemaker and/or system integrations is a plus
- Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English; spoken Hindi preferred
- Ambitious, proactive, and a strong team player
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Manage and support a Junior Accountant to ensure accurate bookkeeping
- Conduct weekly finance reviews with the MD and Board representative
- Drive process improvements and efficiency across finance operations
Financial Control & Accounting
- Maintain integrity of nominal ledger and review all postings
- Perform weekly bank reconciliations (NatWest & Lloyds) in Sage
- Reconcile sales, purchases, supplier statements, debtors, and intercompany balances
- Monitor debtor collections and assist with problematic accounts
- Review control schedules (credit notes, financing facilities, origination, etc.)
- Prepare weekly payment plans aligned with cash flow and approved by MD
- Generate and review monthly TB, P&L, and Balance Sheet
Bookkeeping & Month-End
- Value and post month-end stock
- Post overheads with correct cost centre allocation and VAT treatment
- Review and post accruals, prepayments, and payroll journals
- Complete month-end and year-end close in Sage
Reporting & Compliance
- Review and circulate weekly MI reports
- Prepare month-end accounts and Board pack by the 10th
- Prepare and submit monthly bank reporting by the 20th
- Analyse weekly vs monthly profitability and explain variances
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes
- File VAT, Plastic Tax, and Ecosurety returns
- Maintain and update accounting SOPs
