IT Security Internship

This academic internship offers an opportunity for aspiring IT security professionals to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic software environment. The program is designed to help students build practical skills in information security, understand real-world security workflows, and collaborate with experienced professionals across different technology and security functions, while also fulfilling their academic requirements. Interns will gain exposure to areas such as security assessments, monitoring, incident response, and compliance best practices.

This internship is designed to provide hands-on exposure to core cybersecurity practices within a modern SaaS environment. The intern will gain experience in monitoring, analysing, and improving security posture across infrastructure, applications, and data systems.

Key Learning Areas & Responsibilities

Security Monitoring & Log Analysis

• Work with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) technologies to fine-tune configurations
• Analyse system and network logs to identify anomalies and potential threats
• Understand log correlation and event prioritisation
• Create and customise alert rules to detect specific attack patterns, policy violations, or unusual behaviours
• Build custom dashboards and visualisations to track security events, compliance status, and trends

Alert & Threat Analysis

• Review alerts generated by Unified Threat Management (UTM) systems and firewalls
• Assess alerts for criticality, impact, and relevance
• Document findings and investigate remediation steps

Data Privacy & Software Evaluation

• Analyze software applications for compliance with data privacy principles
• Identify and report potential risks related to data handling and storage
• Check and report if the software has any known security vulnerabilities, CVEs, reported issues, or any recent major data breaches, compromises, or incidents

Application Security & Vulnerability Assessment

• Participate in application-level vulnerability assessments and penetration testing (VAPT)
• Review internal VAPT reports to understand vulnerabilities, their severity, and potential impact
• Assist in documentation of security reports, ensuring findings are clearly recorded with technical and business context
• Help in vulnerability management, including logging identified issues in tracking systems

Education:

• Degree-seeking student (B.S./M.S. in IT/Computer Science) developing expertise in Cyber Security
