Roles & Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server and MySQL instances.
  • Manage and monitor database performance, availability and security.
  • Configure and support replication and clustering for high availability, automatic
    failover and disaster recovery.
  • Perform regular maintenance, including backups, index optimization, and
    patching.
  • Troubleshoot database issues, including performance tuning and query
    optimization.
  • Implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies.
  • Support schema changes, data migrations, and upgrades.
  • Review and approve all SQL changes submitted through GitHub pull requests to
    ensure code quality, performance, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with best practices for database security and user access.
  • Maintain documentation of database infrastructure, procedures, and standards.

Core Qualifications and Competencies – Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Proven experience administering MS SQL Server and MySQL in production
    environments.
  • Strong knowledge of replication technologies and cluster configuration.
  • Solid experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing
    strategies.
  • Experience with GitHub workflows, including reviewing SQL changes via pull
    requests.
  • Familiarity with high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with backup/restore strategies and monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of scripting/automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar).
  • Understanding of cloud-hosted databases (AWS RDS) is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Additional Qualifications and Competencies – Not required but strongly
preferred:

  • Exposure to DevOps/IaC tools (Terraform) for database infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD integration for database changes.
  • Knowledge of auditing, encryption, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR,
    HIPAA, SOX).
  • Experience with Power B.I
