About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled Backend Software Engineer with a strong Java background to join our Reaxys engineering team. You will contribute to the development of scalable, distributed systems powering our chemistry data platform. You will work in a global environment, collaborating with colleagues across continents, and leveraging the latest AI-powered development tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java (preferably Java 21+).

• Build and deploy distributed systems on AWS and Kubernetes.

• Take ownership of technical initiatives, proof-of-concepts, or research efforts, and communicate findings to the team.

• Collaborate closely with frontend, DevOps, and architecture teams.

• Participate in technical reviews, incident resolution, and process improvements.

• Embrace and effectively use AI coding agents (e.g., Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity.

Requirements:

• Master's or equivalent degree in Computer Science or allied fields

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on backend Java development.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions), application security tools, and automated testing frameworks.

• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting technical ideas or research.

• Proven problem-solving skills, including debugging and production issue resolution.

• Strong communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience leading small initiatives or working independently.

• Participation in technical communities, meetups, or internal presentations.

• Experience in complex, data-heavy domains, ideally scientific or chemical fields.
