With Roku providing millions of movies, episodes, news, and channels, the Content Management System plays a vital role in managing content ingestion, selection, enrichment, and curation. We are seeking engineers capable of developing, designing, and deploying highly scalable, dependable applications, tools, and automation frameworks essential for efficiently handling the vast volume of content in our pipeline.

 
About the role

You will be part of the Roku Content Management System and Tools Engineering team, playing a key role in developing the next generation media quality platform that drive content ingestion, selection, management, and curation workflows. These systems are vital for empowering critical functions like Search and Recommendation on the Roku Platform. Your projects will have a direct impact on millions of Roku users globally. Throughout, you'll collaborate with key stakeholders across various Roku engineering teams and take the lead in designing our content management system.

The ideal candidate will have endless curiosity and can pair a global mindset with locally relevant execution. You should be a gritty problem solver and self-starter who can drive programs with the product and commercial teams within Roku and across external strategic partner organizations. The successful candidate will display a balance of hard and soft skills, including the ability to respond quickly to changing business needs. This is an excellent role for a senior professional who enjoys a high level of visibility, thrives on having a critical business impact, able to make critical decisions and is excited to work on a core content pipeline component which is crucial for many streaming components at Roku.

 
What will you be doing:

• Build user experiences and tools that define and drive content workflows, and empower the Roku Programming operations team to create exciting experiences on The Roku Channel
• Code, test, document and deliver highly scalable and reliable platform services and components that create the foundation of the core web application platform with cross-browser compatibility, accessibility and search engine optimization
• Suggest tools, cloud-based technologies/services and best practices to improve the site stability, performance and quality
• Continually seeking ways to optimize and streamline Roku's web application platform to facilitate a seamless implementation experience for our developers and partners
• Participate in Agile development process, including scoping, technical design, estimation effort, coding, testing, debugging, code reviews, maintenance and support
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables with limited supervision
• Mentor other outstanding engineers in the team and promote engineering excellence

 
We're excited if you have:

• Expert-level knowledge of JavaScript
• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
• Knowledge of latest ES6 features, open standards and web technologies and how they can be used effectively
• Knowledge of MUI, TypeScript, and Next.JS is a plus
• Experience building, maintaining and supporting JavaScript libraries across a diverse engineering base
• Experience with following tech stack: , React, , WebPack, SASS/LESS
• Experience with following cloud services: AWS Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, CloudFront, RDS, DynamoDB, VPC, ElasticCache, Lambda is a plus
• Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well out-of-band requests, strong verbal and written communication skills
• 5+ years of web application development experience
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent
