Position Overview: 

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer II who is passionate about solving complex and impactful engineering solutions that will be consumed by millions of users on a daily basis. 
As a Senior Software Engineer II at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing. In this role, you will take on complex and impactful technical challenges, contributing to the design, development, and optimization of the systems that power our platform. You'll work collaboratively across teams to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions and help drive the technical vision forward. What You'll Do:
  • Design, develop, and scale backend systems and services that are integral to our platform's success.
  • Lead the implementation of new features and improvements, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define technical solutions that enhance the developer experience for our users.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex issues, providing elegant and efficient solutions that are sustainable at scale.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, while setting high standards through code reviews and best practices.
  • Contribute to and influence architectural decisions, helping to shape the platform's long-term technical vision.
  • Optimize platform performance, reliability, and scalability through ongoing improvements and proactive monitoring.
  • Participate in rotating on-call support, offering guidance and resolving production issues when necessary.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning, innovation, and technical excellence.
What You'll Add to DigitalOcean:
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Deep expertise in one or more modern programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Ruby, Java), with a solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Extensive experience building scalable, cloud-native systems with a strong focus on performance and reliability.
  • Advanced knowledge of RESTful API design, web services architecture, and microservices patterns.
  • Proven experience with building production systems that operate reliably at scale, with a focus on high-availability and fault-tolerant designs.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
  • A deep understanding of testing practices, with the ability to implement automated tests that ensure the reliability of code.
  • A passion for mentoring and helping other engineers grow both technically and professionally.
  • Hands-on experience with agile methodologies, continuous integration, and continuous delivery (CI/CD).
  • Expertise in advanced database concepts, such as sharding, indexing, and performance optimization.
