Performance Test Lead

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

• Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.

• Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.

• Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.

• Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.

• Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.

• Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be successful as a Performance Test Lead you should have experience with:    

• Performance Testing Tools & Frameworks - Hands-on expertise with LoadRunner, Jmeter, or similar tools for load, stress, and volume testing

• Java Spring Boot Microservices Architecture - Deep understanding of microservices performance characteristics, inter-service communication, and distributed system bottlenecks

• Database Performance Analysis - Proficient in Oracle database performance tuning, query optimization, connection pooling, and database monitoring tools

• Kafka & Message Queue Performance - Experience testing and analyzing Kafka clusters, message throughput, consumer lag, and event-driven architecture performance

• Team Leadership & Management - Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage performance testing teams of ~5-7 engineers across multiple projects

Some other highly valued skills may include:

• APM & Monitoring Tools - Experience with Application Performance Monitoring tools like AppDynamics or Prometheus/Grafana

• DevOps & CI/CD Integration - Ability to integrate performance tests into GitLab CI/CD pipelines and implement shift-left performance testing practices

• Containerization Performance - Understanding of Docker/Kubernetes performance implications, resource limits, and container orchestration impact on application performance

• Process Improvement - Establish performance testing standards, best practices, and governance frameworks across the organization
