Job Purpose:
The Field Officer is responsible for executing and supporting smelting operations, ensuring that all field activities align with production plans and safety standards. This role focuses on monitoring equipment performance, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with shift in-charges and control room operators to ensure seamless operations. The Field Officer is tasked with optimizing processes, maintaining compliance with HSE and regulatory standards, and managing field personnel and resources. By leveraging digital tools and adopting new technologies, the Field Officer enhances operational efficiency, ensuring uninterrupted production and contributing to continuous process improvement initiatives.
Field Officer - Smelter – Copper
Production Planning and Execution:
- Execute shift checklists to ensure that all shift-specific tasks are completed efficiently and production goals are met.
- Log critical shift parameters and ensure accurate data for production reporting.
- Assist shift in-charges in executing production plans, making real-time adjustments as necessary.
- Communicate with the Control Room Operator (CRO) to synchronize field operations with control room activities.
Process Optimization and Continuous Improvement:
- Continuously monitor smelting processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency and output quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, reducing waste and enhancing yield.
- Participate in projects aimed at optimizing material handling and equipment utilization for better operational efficiency.
- Support initiatives that improve process flow and reduce downtime.
Equipment Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
- Perform routine inspections using field checklists to ensure equipment is operating at optimal levels.
- Monitor and troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate with the maintenance team for immediate repairs.
- Assist in the implementation of preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
HSE and Regulatory Compliance:
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to all safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards, reporting hazards or incidents when necessary.
- Perform regular safety checks in the field, ensuring team members are adhering to safety protocols and are equipped with proper PPE.
- Assist in documenting safety-related activities to ensure proper compliance with regulatory requirements.
Resource and Workforce Management:
- Manage field workers by ensuring that tasks are executed according to the production plan.
- Coordinate with shift in-charges and field operators to facilitate effective teamwork and communication.
- Conduct safety and operational training for field personnel to enhance skills and ensure safety compliance.
- Oversee the tracking and management of inventory levels to ensure materials and equipment are available for uninterrupted production.
Digitization and Tech Adoption:
- Utilize SAP and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to monitor and control field operations in real-time, ensuring smooth operations.
- Leverage digital tools to streamline workflows, track data, and automate reporting processes.
- Stay updated on advancements in smelting technology and apply new techniques to improve field operations and performance.

Education Qualification:
BSc in Science or Diploma in Chemical / Metallurgy
Work Experience (Range of years):
Minimum 5-8 years of experience
Certifications:
Relevant certifications in Metallurgy or related fields will be an added advantage
